I had my first dose two weeks ago. It took about 7 days to work. Had two to three days of "normal" nothing for three days. Only other drug is prednisone and soft diet.

I don't know that Remi can cause constipation. It may have just slowed the colon back to normal, and the soft diet doesn't provide enough fiber to keep things moving. You may want to try adding back in foods with a bit more fiber, or add something to give your stool bulk. Metamucil wafers are good for this, there are other things available also.

Yes, it causes constipation in me especially a couple of days after. My best remedy is to eat an apple a day (yep, keeps the doc away!) Also, someone mentioned Milk of Magnesia to help with the constipation so I might try that next time.

Remicade - will have my 21th infusion on April 17.

It used to constipate me. I would add more fiber to the diet, little by little. Also I would take something like Benefiber or Metemucil. I would not take Milk of Magnesia because it might be too strong and cause D.

I too am afraid to take anything for the constipation for fear of the big d, but this person said the MoM helped without any problems.

yeah, that was me, & it does help in a big way! I had a colonsocopy & did not go to the bathroom for 4 days... not so comfy. So on my GI's advice, I bought Milk of Magnesia, took 3T at night, & by the AM was going- not diarrhea, just "normal" bm's. I was back to normal in a day or so. I was totally leery of trying anything resembling a laxative, but it really helped gently. I get constipated from Remicade- but I think it's just the colon working "normally", so I don't take anything for that. It gets better as time goes on after the infusions. I suppose I try to eat more fruit & fiber until then.

diagnosed with UC '02
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade infusions
Imuran- 100mgs/day
