Okay - life with UC was going well.  Saw my new GI on the 13th and was doing SO well.

Then...  I had an attack of some sort this weekend - I'll blame it on my GERD - and I couldn't keep much down until yesterday.  So, I was feeling pretty rotten - and since I couldn't hold anything down - no meds were taken.  Then last night, the cramps came :(  I haven't been in so much pain since my initial flare in '03.  If I were able, I would have gotten up to get my darvocets.  Finally the pain subsided and I slept - well!

Now, after a crampy bathroom run, the dreaded red showed it's face - sob, sob, sob!!!

My scripts from my new GI for Canasa and Rowasa are at the house 30 miles away.  But I don't have a choice in this matter.  I must drive home, get them, take the to the pharmacy and HOPE they have them in stock - and then possibly work on my paid holiday on Friday to make up some time...  (I got in late yesterday because I didn't sleep the night before because even saliva wouldn't stay down.)

Right now it seems more mucousy, so I am placing all my hope in the nightly rowasa and daily (or twice daily) canasa.

I really want to stomp around my office cursing.  But it wouldn't help anything :(

Thank goodness you all understand!!!

I am so sorry!! That totally stinks being that sick, I can't stand being stomach sick too on top of everything.

Where were the cramps in your stomach or your colon? I have gotten debilitating stomach ones that feel like barbed wire is being dragged thru my stomach and curling up in a ball w/immodium is the only thing that is helpful when that happens.

Or better yet - when you get home throw things around (but not breakables!) :) I'm so sorry Dawn that you've been crappy. I hope that this is just a little blip and the rectal meds can calm things down for you. Is your stomach better now?

Maybe you got a stomach bug. I had it right after Christmas. And it can really throw your system for a loop. I was able to get back on track with frequent doses of Natren's powdered Bifido Factor.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Therapeutic dose sulfasalazine.

Oh heck Dawn, that doesn't sound like any fun. The stomach bug has been running rampant around these areas, and it's the 24 hour bug. Hope that it's over for you and that you are able to get those prescriptions filled and back to feeling better soon. Take care my friend.

I did go home and get my scripts and take them in. It doesn't seem that any pharmacy (the three I called) keep rowasa and canasa in stock!!! My rowasa will be in tomorrow - and the canasa on Thursday :(

I'm just mad at the world right now. How come this stupid disease can't give me more warning than a backache!?!?!? Unless the not being able to keep things down was a warning - and a curse, as I think that made things really bad. I don't think it was a flu bug - but I've been wrong before. It all came on after some stressful nights - the darn girl dog wouldn't let us sleep. Stress, leading to lack of sleep, is one of my BIG triggers.

As we all know - it's just not fair!!!

On a side note, I saw my chiro - I was so upset to tell her that my back hurt so bad. It had been getting so much better... When I told her my colitis was acting up she said that the spasms in my back were probably from that. A slight relief that it might not be my back regressing :)

Thanks for the well wishes. It helps more than most can believe to have friends who KNOW it's not in your head :)

Beth - the cramps were down really low in my abdomen. - like something was strangling my colon. It must have hit the nerves because I could start to feel it in my legs and chest too - everything started feeling weak I'm guessing this flare has hit the sigmoid - HARD.

I'll consider it good that they're only there and hopefully the Rowasa will kick them out before they can crawl any higher.

I curled myself around my spare pillow and willed them to go away. There wasn't any moving for me...

Yep, I can understand. I ate like a fiend this weekend, and the belly pain started last night. It usually takes a couple of days to catch up to me! I've been on such a strict and healthy diet...and now it's back to it! Hey....go ahead and get mad. We all understand...totally!

Ahhhh, that makes me want to cry for you! I just went through that with antibiotics. Isn't it scary to feel you might be slipping into a flare? Take care of yourself, and I hope the DD goes back under the rock it crawled out from.

Try to keep at least 1 box of Rowasa on hand at all times. Then, in case of emergency, you can start the med w/o 1st having to drive to the pharmacy. We discussed this in a thread some months back & I remember that another female member wrote describing her bedroom closet packed with R! My gastro told me many yrs ago that even if the expiration date on med has passed, it is usually still o.k. for a few months afterward. WISHING YOU A SPEEDY RECOVERY! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

((Dawn)) no it's not fair! But sometimes after our anger lets go, we need to dust ourselves off and start over. I wish you were still here in Michigan or I could've helped you. :( What about increasing your probiotic?

Today is going okay. No severe cramps last night. Mainly just twinges. But that could be my body just fooling with me!

I must call the pharmacy to make sure the Rowasa will be in stock. I like to have some on hand, and had we not moved in the fall, I would have. But darn my insurance and having to be "approved" by a doctor here before you can see one. It's crazy!

I'm almost excited to pick up my meds! Knowing that they will help me. I'm also interested to see which generic this pharmacy uses...

Thanks again!

Morning all!

Feeling pretty good today. Picked up the RE's last night. Was feeling pretty good and was thinking maybe it was a one day blip. But then I didn't want to end up worse off than I was. So, I started the E's last night - we'll see how things are over the weekend.

Wow, it was weird to use the E after months of not. Took a minute to get the "technique" down again! LOL! I don't have the same set up here as I had then, so that was strange. I'm still not comfortable administering with hubby in bed - so the bathroom it was.

I'm very thankfull to have not experienced those awful, evil pains again! Whew!
