Ok, so I thought I was starting a flare yesterday.  I had blood (found a hemmie so could be from that), had major cramps, pain on the left side and mushy bms.  Then I woke up this morning, I was going to call my GI, then nothing.  I had a bm, which was normal but no cramps and no more pain or blood.  And I only went once.  Uc confuses me so much sometimes!  So maybe it was a blip but does that happen to anyone else?  It's like I can feel my body wanting to flare but then it stops.  Not that I'm complaining! LOL

I know people are going to hate for me asking this - but can I ask - what you ate in the 24 hours prior to having the pain - or even a couple of hours before hand.......

That can happen to me if I eat too much fatty or fibrous food. Since I don't have bleeding or mucous and it clears up in less than a day, I don't count it as a flare. It's just me shoveling too much bad stuff in and my IBS pushing it out.

That happens to me a lot too. I've never bleed though so I always chalk it up to being from something I ate or stress or something

Hmm the day before I had Red Lobster - shrimp (not breaded), baked potato and ceaser salad. Maybe it was the greasy garlic butter from the shrimp. I haven't been told that I have IBS but I sort of suspect it.

It was probably the shrimp-- they can be kinda hard to digest. Broiled sea scallops stay down easiest of the sea creatures, I find. Butter on anything makes me crampy, though, so I avoid it like the plague. Since you have a lot of allergies, you probably have a sensitive tum, too, that overreacted to the meal. Better the temporary upset than a flare, eh? Congratulations! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Maybe it was the salad?? I had popcorn the other night. Let me tell you...I was in the bathroom the entire next morning scared I was starting to flare. Then realizing duh it was just the popcorn. It definitely could be IBS.

I would think the salad too. But you usually eat salads daily, right?

Another thought: when I eat a larger quantity than normal, I pay for it the next day. Or the same happens if I have something with more fiber - like chili!

I'm really hoping it was just a blip!

popcorn can upset me to...but then the only seafood I eat is fish - but I am a huge salad freak...maybe the salad dressing...homemade or brought......funnily enough that does make a difference - (well to me it does)....

I doubt it was the food....but you knew I'd say that!

Are you ovulating?

Near your period?

I've never had it happen to me....and I eat lots of perceived taboo foods.

A fissue would cause bleeding.

Do you happen to have endo?

Yes, I eat a Romaine lettuce salad everyday so I doubt it was the salad. I think I'm just gonna give up trying to figure this whole Uc thing out. I will stick to the facts and nothing but the facts! :)

Q, I think I am near my period now to think of it. I didn't put two and two together - should've though! Since I don't have periods anymore, I never know when my time is but it just so happens that when I am near it, my breasts start hurting something fierce because of my fibro-cystic breasts. And they were tender alright! So maybe it was a hormonal blip then. And no, no endo.

Oh and popcorn is a major no no for me too! I can have maybe a small handful but that is it. More then that and I'm paying for it.

Red - you've the fibrocystic breasts too? Gosh, what a pain! Do you know if there is any link between that and other medical conditions? I have yet to come across any data that says so.

How are things today? Any signs of the blip?

No! The blip was just a blip - go figure. I was just diagnosed with fibrocystic breasts and I don't believe that there is a connection. Just my lucky genes I guess! I had a cyst that was drained from my right breast about a year ago (size of a golfball that popped up overnight literally), went in for a mammogram and found that my breasts were riddled with cysts. At least now I know why they hurt so stinking bad every month. Hormones make them hurt very bad and the only advice my doc gave me was heating pads and take Darvocet. Nothing they can do about it apparently:(

Hey Red, I am in the same boat as you are, I don't have periods anymore due to a hysto at 31 and the only way I know when I'm near my "Ladies Days"...lol.. is when my breasts start killing me and I get really grouchy.. But, for the last couple of years, the timing has been very irregular so I am now taking hormone replacement therapy since my dr says I'm in the PRE menopause stage... I am taking Estradiol every day now and do notice that I feel less grumpy and my boobs quit hurting so much... I don't know how old you are, but if you are in your 40's, it Might be something you want to check into? I'm 45 this summer and she says I'm right in the age where things start to change... Also if you're not having periods due to a hysto, you don't need progesterone since you don't have to worry about uterine cancer... so I only take estrogen. Also, I have very fibrocystic breasts.... such a pain, I have had 4 cysts drained and one lumpectomy in the last 4 years.. all b9, but still, what a pain!!

Thanks for sharing your story Susie :) I'm 38 and had an endometrial ablation last October due to extreme menstrual pain (not endo) and hormonal swings would cause my Uc to flare every month. I see my GYN in May so I may ask him if there is anything that he can do to help with the fibrocystic breasts. Because it can be so darn right painful that it wakes me up at night. And of course our pain meds are limited because of the Uc.

I didn't realize cysts were associated with FC breasts. Ugh. Another scary thing to deal with. I can just feel some "very dense" tissue as one GYN called it. Cutting out caffiene really helps with the pain. So I try to drink caffiene free soda and decaf lattes. Months where I have messed up the caffiene intake are very noticeable...

Yeah, I limit my caffeine intake too especially on my "sore" days. Yes, some women get cysts with their FBD. Here is what one thing says about them.

Some cases of fibrocystic breast condition show little disturbance of the breast tissue. Other cases involve a large number of cysts, along with fibrous (scar) tissue, in the breast tissue.
