I am starting to go into a huge flare up and am thinking of asking my Dr. what other medications I can try. I have moderate Pan Colitis and have been on Asacol, Imuran, Prednison, and Remicade. I need advice as to other medications. I have seen people say they use rectal foam but my GI has never mentioned this and I do not know what the neme of it is or if it is for Pan Colitis. Besides another anti tnf like Humira does anybody have suggestions that I could ask bout. Please let me know. Thanks

The rectal foam that everyone is talking about is Cortifoam and it's a steroid based foam. However, since you have Pan, I doubt that this would be beneficial for you since it only goes to the end end of the rectum. I have left sided and I have always used Colocort which is steroid in enema form because it reaches higher then the foam. But if you don't want to get on steroids, you can try Rowasa which is Asacol in liquid form. This takes much longer to start working though but has less side effects then the steroids.

You should be on both oral and rectal UC meds...regardless of how high it is.

The cortifoam can doesn't for all.

I'd suggest starting with the Rowasa retention enemas. What meds exactly are you on at this time?

You can create a signature so we don't keep asking you.

There is also a 5-ASA rectal foam available in the UK, Europe, & Australia-- but not yet in USA or Canada. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

My Dr. just wants me in and out... And never gives me alternative medicine. It is Imuran, Prednisone and Asacol, nothing else will work he says!!!
