For about the past month and a half I have being doing really well and about two weeks ago finally got off of Prednisone.  But lately I have been experiencing back pain and headaches.  Not as bad as when I was first diagnosed but still pretty bad pain.  Does anyone else experience this?  This has to be UC related, right?  Or could it be from getting off of Prednisone?

Thanks...

are you sure you don't have anemia?

Anemia?  Hmmm.....I have no idea.  Would weight loss accompany anemia?  Because lately I've been gaining weight at the speed of light.

I was told by my doc that the back pain is caused from UC and that the headaches could be from the medication.  But I have no idea, Ulcerative Colitis is really confusing for me.  In my mind it could be any number of things and I won't get to see my doc until the middle of April.  I thought that quitting Prednisone might have something to do with it.

back pain is UC related ... i have them too , even if you don't have blood in the stool UC can still be bothersome due to constant swelling of the colon . you may want to do some exercise if possible to strenghten belly muscles . i ordered JOINT SUPPORT FORMULA from AYUSHAKTI USA in NEW YORK CITY for knee pain and it gave me great relief in back pain too which is associated with chronic colitis . Do a google search on them and try the formula for 2 weeks , no side effects . there shouldn't be any interaction with the drugs u r taking . it has anti inflamatory GUGGUL and BOERHAVIA in it.

Get a blood work done on you to see if you aren't lacking B vitamins or Iron and rule out anemia..

I have alot of back pain when I am flaring also some when I am not. I just got off Prednisone also though so maybe it is that. Mine is almost always on my left side.

Thanks for the info, dare......I'll check that out.

My pain is usually right in the middle of my shoulder blades and the severity of it comes and goes. My headaches usually arrive during the middle of the day.

Hi! I have had back pain for the last 7 years. First two years doctors couldn't figure out if what was wrong just kept saying that the blood test shows inflammation in your body. Then 5 years back ( this June it will be 5 years ) I was diagonsed with UC. One doctor has told me that back pain is a part of UC I am fine in the morning but as the day progresses have shooting pain on the right hand side of my lower back. Let me know if you find something that could help with the pain. Take care.

Have had UC for the past 5 years. Diagnosed as Moderate Pan Colitis. Have psorisis along with UC and back pain.

I get headaches more often than I used to before UC, but even before I got them a lot more than other people I knew. I just take some Aleve (not everyone with UC can take NSAIDs though and UCers shouldn't take them often, if at all) and have to go to bed usually...that's really the only thing that helps my headaches. When I first got on Asacol I had mild headaches almost every day for a few weeks but they went away after that.
