I'm frustrated. I tried Lialda, it gave me the worst stomach cramps and made my D worse, even saw some bloody D which I didn't have before. Now I'm on my 2nd day of Asacol and while the stomach cramps aren't too bad, I have no appetite and more D, and now some bloody D. Why is my body rejecting meds that are supposed to be mild? I'm so sad. I guess I'll be trying Colazal next? Anyone else have problems finding meds that work for them? I'm considering not taking any more prescription meds and just trying probiotics and diet changes. I cannot live with these side effects. I have mild Universal UC.

Have you tried Azulfidine? Asacol did nothing for me, Azulfidine has definitely helped.

I can't take mesalamine in any form - Asacol, Rowasa, Lialda. The diarrhea and cramping are a side effect of the mesalamine that occurs in a minority of people, but it can be really extreme.

Colazal does work for me, and doesn't give me those side effects.

I am sorry. I have been there. I have tried just about everything. I just keep telling myself the next thing I try will be "the one that works". Even though I haven't had complete remission, I have had a few decent years on some meds, (for me Asacol worked ok and Remicade worked the best). It is best to get samples every time you can because you never know what side effects you will have and if you will be able to take it or not. I hope you can find a medicine that works for you soon.

I'm going through the same thing, it's been 3 years. All the meds give me bloody diarreah, weakness, fatigue, cramps, dizzyness it's horrible. When I did take asacol and rowasa at the same time I was a zombie, I slept at work when the boss was away, however the ulcers cleared up. My doctor said you can get right off, so I stopped cold turkey. Instantly it's come back and that was 3 years ago! I don't know what to do now. I'm on a natural protocol and on my own my blood stopped for 3 weeks just last month and I think eating lots of m&m and cashews triggered something over 3 days and now I'm back to bleeding. Yesterday no blood, today bloody again and my hemi is so bad I can barely sit. I know how you feel truly, I do. It seems like most can handle the meds, I can't.

What is the difference between azulfidine and the mesmeline?

May heart goes out to everyone, but those especially that can't tolerate the medication that is suppose to help and it doesn't.
I had the Rocephin shot and 2 weeks of Omnicef, this helped with my bloating and digestion. That was 4/15/07
Had Cipro and Predison for 10 & 5 days, 7/3/07
Colonoscopy & Endoscopy 7/27, Left sided colitis and near cecum (mild)
Had a shot of steriods for my ear inflammation 8/31
Stopped Colozal 10/1/07 was on it for 7 weeks, side effects
On Standard Process supplements, trying a new protocal from a
natural path as of 9/10/07
!
