Hey, everyone. Im 19 years old and currently in my first year of college. Back when I was 16 I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. As of the first week of January of this year, I have been in flare up again. I currently am on pregnisone (now down to 20 mg daily and asacol 4 pills 3x daily). I have also tried a "pro biotic" powder called VSL, which is supposed to promote healthy bacteria cultured in the stomach. I just was wondering if anyone has ever tried any so called "alternative" methods to treating this disease, such as over the counter supplements or herbs, ect. And if so, have you had any luck or has it not worked out. For me as Im sure a lot of other UC'ers out there the side effects of the corticosteroids are not only harsh on my body but take a toll on me emotionally. I was always an outgoing personality and since going back on the pregnisone feel uncomfortable doing things at college or even just meeting new people. Additionally, ive gotten some bad bouts with arthritis in my lower legs and often have toes, legs, and even my fingers cramping up for up to 30 minutes at a time. Im always looking for "new treatments" out there and was wondering if anyone else has felt the same way and has had any luck?
