What do you eat in remission on Remicade?

I was just diagnosed this month with severe pancolitis (hopitalized almost two weeks). I ended up on steroids - currently 35 mg Pednisone and Remicade. I am having formed stools - for a week or so- after two doses of Remicade. I'm taking it slow with my diet, but I feel like I could eat anything - including salad!

What do all of you eat? I'm serious! I'm so afraid. Do I wait until I taper my steroids down before I have anything that might cause a flare (such as a piece of pizza?). Will eating risky food prevent the prednisone taper?

Thanks again.

Just trying to make sense of all of this.....

I think you can eat pretty much whatever you want. I have just a few things that I can't eat - soy, turkey...um..yoghurt i think. That's it.

Food cannot cause you to flare - it can only aggravate the symptoms.  I'm in remission now and can eat pretty much what I want - with moderation.  I just know - that for myself - if I eat too many fruits & vegies in one day - I will have extra bathroom trips the next day.  That does not mean I am flaring - it just means I no longer tolerate that many fruits & vegies.

If you want that piece of pizza - have it.  The only way you'll know if it's bad for you is if you try it first.  If you have symptoms like cramping or excess diarhea afterwards - you'll know for next time to limit your pizza intake.

Does this mean that to some degree diarrhea is "OK"? Do you just hope it doesn't lead to bloody D?

Eat whatever doesn't bother you. I limit fattyfoods, fiber and highly spiced foods. Everything else in moderation.

Diarrhea isn't okay. If you're still having D., stay on your flare diet. When things are more solid, eat what you want. Start out with small amounts of the foods you're adding back in and keep a food diary to see if there's anything you can identify that bothers you. I can eat pizza and I can eat salad. What I can't do is eat them the same day. I'm so glad to be able to eat salad again, but I limit it to a two or three times a week or it can cause me trouble.
