Hi Everyone I just wanted to touch base with you on where I am with my UC.  I just had my first colenoscopy and should heve the results of the biopsies taken by my GI. Visually he said I was still had an area of active ulcerations/flair in the botton end of my colon with scaring higher up . I guess the way it was described to me was the lowest part is the last to heal. Thats good because it shows that I must be healing since ther was evidence of past activity higher up. I will get the entire story on April 9th when My GI will meet me to go over the biopsy results. The asacol and prednisone must be working but after a year on symptoms and 5 months of treatment it can't come too soon. Unfortunatly I developed Diabetes from the Pred and now have to take insulin twice a day.   Since the pred is not going to be an option for me I am now starting on Imuram and should be on my final dose of 250 mg next week.   Just checking in and hoping the full dose of Imuran won't make me too fatigued as I heard it can.
Take it easy every one.

Happy to hear you're improving. Yes, the rectum is the first to inflame, last to heal....Is there a reason that you're not on any rectal meds such as Rowasa (Salofalk) retention enemas?

Hope you feel better soon!

*Heather*Status: mini flare Dec 28... tapered to every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~5ASA: Asacol (6 daily) + Salofalk enemas (increase for flares tapered to maintenance)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~Probiotic 3(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + 1 (Primadophilus Reuteri) occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed ....zymactive 3 - 5x daily
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux) Effexor XR 75mg;  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

Thanks for the reply, I was on that a while back but they told me to stop when I went on the pred. it seemed to be doing nothing for me. I did over hear my GI nsay to the nurse during the proceedure something about putting me back on it or on a enema of some sort but I was not in a condition to really hear him or respond. I will be seeing him on April 9th and I'm sure that is when he will map out the next plan.  Do you know if there are any strong streiod type rectal treatments? It can't be Prednisone as they want me off that due to diabetes I've develped from that med.

Take care

The steroid enemas are called Colocort or Hydrocortisone enemas. Less of the steroid enters your blood stream unlike Pred however if taken for a long period of time, the steroid can build up in your system. You are going to have let us know what the doc has to say when you go see him.
