Artist Tommy Mintz compiled this map, he's one of us! I wonder if other cities/states have something like this - i know users of this board are spread around the US and the world. It seems pretty simple to create using google maps and community input...

Seen on todays aol.com:

When you gotta go, you gotta go -- surely something artist Tommy Mintz had in mind when he created a toilet map for New York City, plotting 250 places to do your business in the city. Mintz was inspired to do this project as he suffers from ulcerative colitis, a long-term disease that causes frequent diarrhea.

The map is a laser printed, wallet-size fold-out that marks out well-known as well as obscure toilets across the city, assuring that you will never have to hunt for one in NYC again.

It is displayed at the Jewish Museum as part of their Off The Wall exhibition and can be bought for $2 on the Internet.

Not pocket-able, but another well known effort to do the same was that of New York Restrooms a couple of years ago.

For the rest of the world, consult www.thebathroomdiaries.com/search.html

It's pretty cool. I've used it!

5ASA drugs don't work for me. Canasa seems to make me worse.

Julee - thanks for posting that.

Was originally skeptical about his "map" and wondered who would actually print it out and debated it and decided I'd do it 'some other time.' How wrong i was.
Shoulda taken the advice of the original poster....:)
Was shopping in Midtown Manhattan today for the first time in months. Stranded in a huge store, i asked a saleswoman if there was a restroom. She replied with a quick, "no" which really means, yes, we have one for employees but not for customers. Sheesh, it crossed my mind to tell her that it was an emergency, and medical issue but there were other pple there and i didnt want to make a scene and embarass myself. In retrospect, i really shoud have. It was close to impossible to find a restroom...i think i'm ordering that map....

In mid-Manhattan the best locations for public restrooms are hotels, dept. stores, & chain bookstores with cafes inside. The problem of finding a clean/safe one in a hurry increases as one moves below 34th Street or above 66th Street, I think. If Tommy Mintz covers those northern & southern areas well, his map would be worth buying. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Nice! I am going to NYC to visit my friend in 1 month, so it might come in handy.

If I really need to go, I usually say, "You know, I really need to use your restroom immediately because I have a condition. Is this possible?" Seems to help.

Well, I didn't really need this afterall.  I just held it until I came back... yeah right!  Actually I managed to find toliets at the right time.  I think getting all the excercise helped a lot, since I had less BM.  One thing I really like about NYC is that you can go pretty much anywhere without needing a car.  Had a good time with my friends and my bowel was fairly well behaved.  I decided not to use my suppository while there, because it would be a little awkward (ya think?).
