With my son in a major flare and having exhausted all medication including Remicade (not Humira), we want the best possible advice and care.  Curious if anyone can suggest good doctors or possible surgeons in the Chicagoland area.  Unfortunately we are on an HMO, but our primary care is pretty good about referrals.

Hi Lew, there are a ton of great GI's in the chicagoland area. Some of the best are here. If you are looking into the city try Dr. Hanauer at University of Chicago. It's a great hospital and i'm sure there are many others there but Hanauer is the name i've heard most. In the suburbs I have a great GI with a great group. I go to northwest gastro in arlington heights but they have several offices. I see Dr. Schwartz but have seen several others in his practice. Been going there ten years and have no complaints. Other names there are Dr. Cohen and Dr. White. There are a few of us Chicagoans here so i'm sure others will chime in. Good luck!

I was also going to suggest U CHicago, and Hanauer specifically.

I would suggest Dr. David Rubin also at the University of Chicago.  Problem is, it might take you 4 months to get in to see him.  I got in at Mayo Clinic in 1 week with my current GI for a consult.  My current GI is in Michigan and am living there as well.  When I was living last fall in Chicago and flaring big time, he is the man that I was recommended to go and see.  His appointment schedule, at that time, was booked 4 months out.
