Hi all! :)

Does anyone have severe back pain with an UC flare up so bad that you can not lay down and must sleep sitting up? Also does anybody have severe pain when passing gas? Or when having a Bm i pass clotted blood? I called into the docters but they seem so busy and have not called back. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

This flare has caused me considerable back pain! I think the horrible back aches were my only "clue" that I was going to flare. Lots of back spasms...

I find I must fall asleep on my side with a pillow between my legs. Flat on my back hurts - and reclining doesn't feel too good either :( I've been treating with a chiropractor for other reasons and she wasn't at all surprised when I mentioned the back aches and colitis together. Although she could be full of it as she keeps asking what I ate to bring this on... grrr...

The blood/mucous clot with bm isn't abnormal for a severe flare.

Have you tried Tylenol? I'm in love with the extra strength rapid release caplets! Only 15 minutes to some relief instead for 30 or more with the regular ones...

When I'm in remission, I can sleep on my back with a pillow under my knees. When I'm flaring, I have to sleep on my side with that pillow between my knees also. Sometimes a warm heating pad or the therma-wraps on my lower back helps me.

confused  HI again, thanks for your info, it has been more helpful then the Dr.. Nurse from my GI called back and said it is no way the back pain is associated with UC. She couldn't answer my question about should I be in pain. I just want to know if I should be in pain and if UC should hurt this bad. She would not give me a straight up answer and said she would get with the Dr and call me back. But as of 4:30 no call. I am starting to have doubts about my Dr's. My PC hasn't even called back. I also sleep with the pillow and can not sleep on my back. Have been having bad back pains for over two years and PC says it is muscle's and puts me on percocet and fexeril, so I am just staying doped up and when I stop the meds I am still in pain. Thanks again, I appreciate you caring. Let me know what I am not being told,,,PLEASE, I am about ready to go to hospital, The pain hurts but is tolerable with meds, Just need to know if it should be there.  Thanks, Angel

I have the same problems. When I have even the slightest signs of a problem, my back just kills if I try sleeping on my back. I have to sleep on my side, with a body pillow. Nice warm baths seem to help some, and for me, I take Aleeve cuz it helps me a lot.

Physical therapy might help, too. They can show you exercises to help relieve the pain somewhat.
