The consistent bad gas (if you've not been changing/adding anything to your diet) is a symptom that you probably have very mild inflammation low in the rectum.
Now that the symptoms are more obvious...it would be a good idea to start the rectal meds.
I disagree with that. How is inflammation in the last six inches of your colon going to cause increased gas?
My advice is try chewing your food slower and very thoroughly for now and maybe try a probiotic possibly with some helpful enzymes to aid digestion. Talk to your doctor if you believe you are in a flare.
Can't explain it exactly...but low in the rectum inflammation will cause increased gas as well as stomach discomfort/pain believe it or not. Gas and constipation are one of the symptoms of UP....that's why many of the UCers don't recognise it as a symptom because it's not of the norm for them.
Could be imbalance of bacteria in the gut...could be food/drink intake....could be probiotics or digestive enzymes if they've just been started ......but if it's consistent and out of the norm for someone with UC who hasn't changed anything...I'll bet without a doubt it's early symptoms to a flare.
