Haven't been on the site for sometime now. But I'm experiencing something that I hope to get some opinions on... I've been in remission for over 1 1/2 years. I sometimes (presently) feel achy in my stomach. It feels like my colon is probaly inflammed or something. I also am very gassy (?). I'm not flared or anything just achy.  Any suggestion?

It could be that your body is gearing up for a flare or it can something you ate. You can try increasing your VSL if you're still on that or maybe upping your Asacol to see if it helps.

But what do you eat? Also do you exercise regularly or do any physical activities on a regular basis?

I don not eat alot of fats. I do not snack alot. But I have been drinking some cokes and eating some ice cream lately. I could stand to eat more vegetables. My eating habits are not horrible or anything.

Excercise..I used to be an excerise freak. Then came colitis. Then I got pregnant. I had my one and only child at 39 and now I'm 43. Every since she came along I have never gotten back into my excerise. I have a very active job..alot of walking and stair climbing. So there again its something but not enough. Basically I  have yet to make the transformation back to MY life! It's still about her.

This is just a guess, but I'd try to quit the ice cream and see if it's that. Also coke is not a good idea either.

I agree with princess...I'd totally give up the coke and any soft drink for that matter, as well as the ice cream...dairy can cause the issues you describe and so can carbonated drinks, and at your age (not saying you're old, heck, I'll be 41 this yr) but carbinated drinks do a number on the old bones well before their time, it's hard on the gut and not to mention all the sugar that is packed into both the coke and ice cream.

Just my 2 cents :)

And it's good that you at least do alot of walking, that's better than nothing at all.

I wanted you to know that ice cream ALWAYS gives me gas and stomach-aches so that's why I guessed the ice cream.

Agree that neither sodas nor ice cream are a good idea for IBDers. Dairy's often a problem to digest because of the lactose and/or casein content. Caffeine can irritate the GI tract. Carbonation causes excess gas. And the sugar in both sodas and ice cream encourages the overgrowth of bad gut flora with accompanying gas and bloating.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal.
