I'm having my first colonoscopy on Monday and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on how to make the process go smoother.
I'm in the UK at the moment (as this is where I go to school) and though things were under control before I took the flight here from the USA, I have been having a slight flare-up since I got here. So, I'm concerned about any discomfort whilst doing the colonoscopy due to the inflammation. I thought I'd be completely knocked out for the procedure but apparently they only give a mild dose of valium here.
I've been given senna granules and citramag to take with warm water the day before, and am going to be on clear fluids the day before too. I've also been advised to use some barrier cream to avoid soreness. I read someone's recommendation of drinking the senna and citramag through a wide straw to avoid tasting much. Does anyone have any other tips?
Since I've never had a colonoscopy, I'm not sure if I'm making this out to be a lot worse than it actually is, but my last sigmoidoscopy was quite uncomfortable so I'm a bit apprehensive at the moment.
