I began taking seasonale 2 1/2 months ago with the hope that I would have less flares, since I always tend to flare during my period.  All has been well until the past few days.  I have had some spotting, which I know is normal on seasonale, but since my hormones are obviously out of whack, I am beginning to flare as well.  I have one more week of the seasonale before my "off" week.  I am wondering if I should just have this coming week be the off week, and once I have a period, maybe things will settle down again, rather than have this misery for two weeks.  Does that make sense?  Any opinions or experiences with bc pills would be appreciated.

Maybe you should call and ask your doctor, but it seems to make sense to me to make this your off week.

I agree about calling your doc. Maybe having the off week early this cycle and seeing how it goes again with the next cycle.

Let us know what happens!

I take an active birth control pill every day of the year and never have a "period" at all. When your on the pill it is not really a period anyway, but rather withdrawl bleeding from the removal of estrogen. I take pills that way to avoid headaches, because I'm early stages of osteoporosis and to try to lower my risk of ovarian cancer (which my mother has). I love it - have done it this way for two years. The pills I take are Kariva (generic of Mircette) I only take the active and not the off week ones. I don't have UC, though.

I would call your doctor and double-check with him/her.
As for UC and bc, I took Kariva for the past two months (to regulate my periods) but I've stopped it. I had virus-like symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc) 3 times after starting Kariva, and the last two times it happened right at the beginning of my period. And I don't think it was a regular flare b/c it would only last a day or two, whereas my flares at least last a week. My nurse practitioner said that these kind of symptoms usually don't happen w/ bc, but since this had happened only after taking bc, that Kariva may not be working well for my body (which possibly could be UC-related). I also took Ortho Tri Cyclen before I had UC, and I didn't have these sorts of problems.
My ob/gyn also prescribed Seasonale instead of Kariva, but I'm not going to be taking it b/c cramps are unbearable for me and I know I'll have them with the spotting.
