Well, after 21months, I think I am at the start of a flare. I got a sinus infection about 10days ago, and about 1 week ago I started flare symtoms. I started getting back pain, pus during my bm, alomg with pain. I called my GI and he called in a script for Rowasa and I took the 1st dose yeaterday, and I kept it in all night!! I'm hoping I can stop this before going into a full flare.

Did you get the generic?
Glad you could keep it in all night. That's awesome. Hope you feel better soon.

Good for you, going after the flare right away with Rowasa. PLEASE has written that her daughter's UC 1st flared after extensive treatment for recurrent sinus infections. Have you been taking antibiotics? / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Not taking anything for the sinus infection. That's how I went into my last flare 21months ago. I'm just trying to let it run it's course. I had my GI call in for generic, but the box and bottles say Rowasa on them, so I don't know if they are generic or not. They look like the real thing if I remember right, but I'm not 100%. What does the generic look like as compared to name brand ones?

The generic say "Mesalamine". It sounds like you got the original if they are stamped "Rowasa". There was a thread right before Thanksgiving where Trixy's Got Butt Trouble reported on a hassle she had with Rite Aid over her prescription. She found out that the original maker of Rowasa had sold it to another pharmaceutical, which led to a major shortage of the med at the warehouse supplying her local pharmacy. She made a number of phone calls to the company HQs to get Rowasa flowing back to her area! Maybe you have benefitted from her efforts! There have been other threads complaining about the hard-to-squeeze bottles of generic shipped from Israel; then a member wrote that a plant in PA had apparently started supplying the generic in better bottles late in 2007. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... sodbuster...you did exactly the right thing by not waiting too long! Hope you got a lot of refills...you should stay on them nightly until you are "normal".....continue another week, then go to every second night...etc.

You should also stay on a maintenance dosage of enemas...your body will tell you the dosage.

You could consider to use Sudafed for your sinus infection...as well as probiotics to keep the "stuff" that drains from affecting your digestive tract.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Hey Q, I did start to take Sudafed 2days ago, and my GI put me down for 5 refills. I sarted them 2 days ago, and was able to keep the whole bottle in all night both nights!! I plan on using them till I feel 100% better like I was before this darn sinus infection.

Hope the sinus infection wanes quickly...if not, you might have to do antibiotics.

I can already tell I'm getting better after 3days of the Rowasa. I remember the last time I used these I had a hard time keeping them in, but 3days in a row and no problems. I also think my sinus infection is going away as well. I have doubled my probotic intake over the last 3 days as well. I hope this clears up so I can stay in remision.
