I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine and after telling him what was going on with me he asked me if I was embarresed when I went to pick up my Rowsas? I told him NO, why should I? I am sick and that's my medication. I also told him a few yrs ago I needed to wear adult dipers a few times and it didn't bother me when I had to go buy those either. I told him that this illness sometimes takes away things that most people take for granted, like pride. I told him this is a lifelong disease and I will never be embarresd about being sick. If I had diabetes or something I would not feel awkward buying my needles and what ever I needed. I told him just because these meds go up my butt, it has nothing to do with any "gay"phobia he might have. I told him to google Ulcertive Colitis and call me back. He did and said he never knew what we go through. I told him just for taking the time to read some and learn that friday, the 1st beer is on me. Guess what, he told me that with my condition I should not drink any beer!! I told him great, you read for 20min and another expert is born!!! lol

lol, great story. I'm trying to get that kind of confidence, but it's still weird having to tell the pharm tech - yes, that big bag on the floor is for me. Yes, the whole thing.

I have no trouble buying rowasa, canasa, or any of the meds. You kind of lose that part of you when you've had to deal with it for a while. When I went to pick up the Rowasa last week my husband went with me and he couldn't believe how unabashed I was talking to the the pharm tech with a line of people behind me. He was much more embarrassed than I was. She (the pharm tech) and I were laughing about carrying out 2 boxes of enemas. It was really funny to me.

You reminded me of the funny story I've told people about walking out of the pharmacy with two big bags that I couldn't even see over. People were laughing, and I had to laugh right along with them. It truly was a funny sight, and little did they know what the meds were in those two hugs bags! :-)

That is why I love my mail order pharmacy. All my scripts come to me via the United Parcel Service in a brown cardboard box. No more explanation to the pharmacy technician... and no more lugging all the Rowasa boxes out of the pharmacy with all the other shoppers staring at you.
Proud new mom of a beautiful baby boy!
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 3x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

My mail in pharmacy sent me 6 months worth of enemas by mistake.....couldn't even move the box off the front porch.  Neighbors thought it was funny to watch me try to move that box.  Next day at the bus stop, they asked me what it was I was struggling with for so long yesterday.....my meds.  They didn't ask another question!!  Anyone elses friends only want to hear good things, never want to talk about bad times.  Even when I need to vent, I feel like I have to keep quiet.....don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

diagnosed with left-sided UC in 1997. (45cm)
Currently on 10mg Prednisone
12 caps of colazal    9 caps Colazal
2 rowasa enemas nightly

that is too funny, what a good friend!

I used to be embarrased, but am pretty much over that. Though I do prefer to buy my prep h suppositories along w/my presciption meds rather than at the regular checkout.

Oh for fun!

If you can't find some humor in life - it's not really worth it :)

I guess I rarely think about what I'm buying any more and if it will make others cringe. Might be easier for females though - since we've had to buy "diapers" forever!

Well, went out friday nite with my buddy. After about an hr at our local bar he decided to try and get back at me. While I was in the bathroom he told or waitress that I was in the bathroom cuz I have a problem. No big deal, OI don't care right? So, I get back and the waitress is shy, but says, I understatnd your having problems? I say what? My buddy starts cracking up!! I tell her I am in remission, and I have UC. Before I can explain what UC is, she smiles and says she has UC too!! Cut to the chase, by the end of the night, SHE asked me out!!lol So, I'm on vacation for 3 weeks and now it looks like I'll have something to do now!! My buddy told me I have the best luck, and I told him, just cuz someone has UC, doesn't mean they can't still be like THE FONZ!! That's when he told me I had enough Guiness!!!
