My doctor did a blood test and my inflammation markers are a bit high indicating a flare. Most of the damage seems to be rectally based as my stool quality is actually quite good. He's put me on PredFoam - 20mg steroid foam twice daily. He says that this might be more effective for rectal based inflammation and have less side effects than oral pred.
Even though I trust my doctor I'm concerned about this approach. Should I not so straight to oral pred despite the side-effects to get this under control. Is Predfoam really as effective as oral pred. Won't it take longer to dampen down than an orally administered steroid. Isn't foam more for maintenance?
Also how long do you have to retain a foam based steroid?
I'm in England.
Any comments would be very helpful.
Thank you.

I haven't done the foam, but going up the rear end gets to the diseased organ quicker than running through the whole body. I notice results ALOT quicker when I am able to get that stuff to stay in. Ideally when I use the 60ml hydrocort solution, I shoot to get about 30 ml in. I would have to imagine the foam is easier to hold than the liquid, maybe like putting ready whip up there? I am gonna have to try that stuff out I guess. Anyway, I lay on my left side, bend the right knee up, stick it in, try to convince my body this is perfectly normal, and if I can hold for 15 minutes I am good to go. 15-20 minutes seems to be a good time for me, then I am able to get up.
