I started flaring last week and this past Sunday, 2 days ago, I had some bloodwork at a local Health Fair. 25 differnent tests for only $20. But the lady who took my blood said it looked strange. It was too dark or brownish. Does anyone think that is b/c i started flaring? THis lady was drawing blood for hours from lots of people, so if she thought my blood looked strange, i'm sure it didn't look normal.

currently:  I must say Under Control, 1 formed BM/day
RX/day:  Tapered Prednisone completely January 2008. Lost job and insurance 10/2007 and stopped taking asacol and Imuran cold turkey
(believe me I know my body and do not recommend doing this!!!)
OTC: seldom use VSL#3, vitamins & other natural treatments
Diet: SCD helps tremendously, but am not strictly on it. For Lent I gave up peanuts, sweets, and fried foods...

Hi...definiely give your doc a call and enquire if he'll do other tests for liver/kidney.

Do you smoke?

~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~5ASA: Asacol (6 daily) + Salofalk enemas (increase for flares tapered to maintenance)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~vitamins/minerals/supplements 
~Probiotic 3(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + 1 (Primadophilus Reuteri) occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed ....zymactive 3 - 5x daily
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux) Effexor XR 75mg;  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

Thanks. No i don't smoke but I will ask to check my liver and kidney. I am just starting to flare and noticing that all my body is feeling miserable. Like my chest is so tight i cant even sneeze.

Something else is going on for sure if you can't breathe...do you have asthma?

I work with blood a lot and sometimes it depends on what you eat. Did you have a really greasy breakfast or something unusual to eat before the blood was taken? I would definately get to the doc soon.....just to be on the safe side. You don't need another thing to worry about while in a flare. Hope you feel better soon.

Whenever I get my blood taken, it looks blackish. My test results always come out fine.
 
* I had to edit this because I forgot that I do have one problem with my blood tests, they always come out with very high white blood cells.  I don't know if that affects its color, though.  I would see a doctor soon about the tightness in your chest.  I hope you feel better soon!
Diagnosed with Left-sided UC in 1995 at age 15, Prednisone, Rowasa & Hydrocort. Enemas, Proctofoam, Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Probiotics, Fish Oil, Aloe Juice, Canasa, Enotcort, Colazol, Anamantle, Remicade, etc... had 1 inch deep rectal ulcer 2004, put on Remicade, August 2007:Increased Remicade dosage-700mg every 6 weeks,diagnosed w/ Psoriatic Arthritis & Fibromyalgia Current meds: Clorazepate, Lomotil,  Tylenol pm, Lyrica started 1/17/08, Flagyl 750 mgs started 4/2/08, Humira started 4/4/08
