Just got a call. My doc wants to rapid taper the prednisone, from 40 mg to 15 mg for 3 days, 10 mg for 3 days, 5 mg for 3 days and then 2.5 for 3 days. Sounds like an pretty intense taper. :(

And I'm starting Flagyl tonight for 10 days.

So, I'm slightly confused. Does this mean I still have ulcerative colitis? Or is c-diff INSTEAD of the colitis?

If you were diagnosed correctly with UC, then it is something you will always have, though you may have times of remission and times of flare-ups. I take Flagyl sometimes cause it seems to help when I am in a flare-up. You could have C diff along with your UC, but have you been tested for it? My guess is the doctor is giving you the Flagyl to try to prevent a flare-up from tapering the Prednisone. Why is he doing such a rapid taper of the Prednisone? I also don't understand why you are not still taking the Asacol.

I had a bad reaction to the asacol, and we did a lab test for the c-diff, so it's definitely something I have right now. The rapid pred taper is due to the fact that pred doesn't seem to be helping at all.
