Hi all. I have been going thru a flare since the beginning of March. The first night of the flare I had very intense abdominal pains and was hardly able to even walk. Ever since I have had abdominal pains.. I can walk and they are tolerable but are getting VERY annoying. I find lifting or pulling anything or even stretching makes them worse. Also they get worse right before and after a BM. Mostly they are on the right side but I find sometimes they move to the left. I only have BMS 1-2 times a day but they are really skinny and thin most of the times but not diarrhea. Other than that I am very tired and weak... need a nap in the afternoon and a full night of sleep. Also wake up some mornings with aches in my joints, especially my fingers, wrists and ankles. I am waiting for an appointment with my specialist and possibly a colonoscopy <which I had done and was diagnosed with UC in '04>

I guess I just want to know if anyone else has constant abdominal pain??? I have been off work since all this started as being at work required being on my feet all day, heavy lifting and bending.

Any thought appreciated, as always.... you guys are GREAT. :O)

When I was first diagnosed I did have the constant abdominal pain. Then as the years went by, it was limited to my left side and it was sort of a pinchy type pain. That is my first indication that I'm heading for a flare is when I get that familiar left sided twinge again. Do you know the extent of your Uc?

I don't really know the extent for certain, was just diagnosed as having UC. She had taken multiple biopsies throughout my large intestine. I haven't had many problems since then, until now.. so I have only been back and forth to my family doctor. I am waiting for an appointment with her again <the specialist> and intend on asking her how extensive my UC is or was at that time. I didn't know much about the disease when I was first diagnosed but now that I do.. I will have LOTS of questions for her.

Basically, I guess I was just wondering of this pinchy pain is ever going to go away or do I just have to settle with it. ?? Maybe when I see the specialist she will be able to change around my meds and find something that takes the pain away. So do you only usually have abdominal pain during or right before a flare??

Once your flare is under control and you enter remission, the pain should subside. I know for me, the pinchy pain is the first to come and the last to go. I'm in remission now and that pain is gone - which I'm grateful for because it can drive a person batty! I get that pain at the beginning and all thru out my flare. When it gets real bad, I resort to taking Darvocet. But I don't like to take them - not crazy about narcotic pain meds.

I may be totally off, but you might want to check your abdominal region for a lump.  During my last flare, I had constant abdominal pain.  Turned out I had given myself a small hernia from straining.  If it is bothering you while lifting things, etc. it could turn out to be that.  Mine felt like a small bump that was painful to the touch.

Thanks for your answers.. makes me feel like I am not totally insane, lol. I actually did think of a hernia myself... but no I haven't got nay lumps or bumps.. my family doctor checked for lumps <or swellings> when I initially went to see him to get new meds a few weeks ago. I guess its just the flare. It all started with the intense pain in the abdomin and then went to the extreme tiredness, joint pains.. the urge to go to the toilet only to do nothing... then the urge that means GO NOW or wear it... those have just started to be more frequent. I find lately... when I have an urge I ignore it until I get the one that makes me start to sweat a little and my eyes get watery.. then I know its a real one !! LOL Also, I don't "strain" .. I learned that lesson LONG ago, lol. Ig it ain't coming out... I wait it out !! LOL
