SO I have UC...I have had it for 5 years, half of which I have spent in remission. However, I have had a flare up that has lasted since August and the medication does not help - the doc wrote a script for another med. but it is very very expensive even with insurance.

SO I have read a lot about diets and natural remedies but cannot really get anything too decisive so was wondering if anyone had anything to recommend...

Any help would be appreciated!

I think taking a good probiotic and eating yogurt helps. I also take omega-3 fish oil which helps against inflammation in the body (and it is good for the heart). And personally fiber helps (this is not the case for many people). I feel much better if I have a daily dose of oatmeal.

I also avoid food that is high in fat, ground beef, fried foods, fast food and food in general that is not healthy.

I do these things combined with my medication.

HOpe this helps!

I highly recommend you read Listen to Your Gut by Jini Patel Thompson. She covers every alternative healing approach under the sun. The book and CD are expensive but invaluable. She also offers dietary recommendations based on your symptoms, gives you details on tons of natural supplements and the symptoms they relieve. It's a comprehensive reference book you'll come back to consult often.
