Hello everyone! My husband and I have been thinking about having another baby (if I can stay well). I have been taking Entocort for awhile now, and it seems to be working well for me. I haven't had a flare up, and my arthritis isn't bothering me near as much.

My question is this...have any of you gone through a healthy pregnancy and stayed on your meds? What meds are safe for pregnancy??

Hope all is well with each and everyone of you!

hi there!
i'm currently 18 weeks pregnant with my second. you can see what i'm currently on in my signature.
so far i'm feeling GREAT! even better than pre-preg which was still pretty good. but many women do have problems during pregnancy. it doesn't seem like there is any way of knowing ahead of time which group you will be.

as far as drug safety, check with your GI as well as your OB and even your pharmacist.

i know there are other ladies who are here who may respond, but this topic has come up a lot lately so you can try a search at the top of the forum page and see what else you find (though the search never really works well for me).

this is my first pregnancy with UC so i've never had to do pregnancy and meds before this. it was challenging to accept for me but i'm happy with my decision.

hope you are doing well, and good luck trying to conceive if you head down that road!

-Prednisone 8/28/06-2/28/07. and again may '07, 8 week course.

may you live all the days of your life.

My husband and I are in the same boat right now, thinking about a baby later in the year hopefully.  Biggest thing my GI has told me is to be as healthy as possible going into conception, he offered that maybe getting a sigmoid scope done a month before I would like to try and conceive might not be a bad idea to make sure all is quiet.  I'm not sure what maintenance meds you take but mine is mainly asacol which is safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding says the GI.  Fallbacks for in case I flare during a pregnancy would be prednisone or rectal meds.  I have asked this similar question to the board before and also noted that there are women that have/are taking azathioprine successfully though pregnancies which is good to know.

During my first pregnancy I was flaring so I was On 8salofalk tablets a day plus salofalk enemas at night. With my second pregancy I went right into remission  during my pregancy and never felt  so healthy in years and stayed that way for almost 2years after my daughter was born.  I continued to take 6 salofalk tablets daily throughout my whole pregnancy.

Before I took any meds I called a place called MothersRisk (Canada) and they research many drugs and there effects during pregnancy and they told me that It was safe to take salofalk orally and rectally.  Both of my children were born healthy.

Good Luck.

I was diagnosed with UC 6 months after the birth of my first baby ( no problems up until then ) but was really scared to get pregnant again as much as I wanted another baby. Thankfully god took this out my hands and gave us a wee surprise (because really I don't think we would of had any more due to me being so scared) anyway I was completely well, got pregnant and within about 4 weeks was in a full blown flare (everything that I had been worried about) but eventually they gave me steroids (seemingly very little passes to baby so not a problem)after trying a number of rectal meds which didn't work and I got the flare up under control although was on steroids for a good 4 or 5 months and believe me I was not a pretty site (steroids and pregnancy bad combination I was as big as a house) but baby was born completely healthy. Then after my pregnancy I had a year and a half of being completely well (longest to date).

My pregnancy threw me into a flare. I was on 12 asacal a day and 20 mg of prednisone. I swear my daughter was the strongest baby I have ever seen...but she is healthy and fine and no issues with the pregnancy. Second one was easier. Just the asacal and no problems. I think my GI told me that whatever state you are in when you conceive, that is likely the state you will stay in throughout the duration of the pregnancy. So, the healthier you are going in, you will likely stay healthy. Good luck!!

With my first I took asacol and rowasa throughout, and also took prednisone when I began flaring.  With my second I took asacol all the time and rowasa on and off.  I did have high blood pressure with my first and I think it may have had something to do with the pred.  But it was manageable.  Other than that no problems at all and I have a healthy 3 year old and 1 year old.  Best of luck to you.
