It only seems to work for me about every other night! Thursday and Friday night - wonderful, about four hours, then a few more! Slept well. Last night - no luck, maybe an hour before I woke up again.

Does it matter if you take it on an empty stomach? The only different thing I can think of is that I realized late that I forgot to take my second Flagyl - and you HAVE to take that with food - so I ate a cookie with it...

Ah! some regular sleep would be great!

Ah ha! Yes, take on an empty stomach.  (found on www.rxlist.com)

Now, how long after you eat is your stomach empty!?!?!

Hey Dakotagirl

I take Ambien now once in a while too. I have found that it doesn't work for me always either and I have also found out that it is because of food in the stomach., On nights when I don't have a big dinner, it hits me PRONTO, like 15 minutes after taking it. If I've eaten, then it can be up to an hour or more.. I'm not sure how long after you eat your stomach is empty, but I'd bet if you waited 2 hours after eating it would be better.

You might try asking your doc about Ambien CR, which is controlled release. The regular Ambien did nothing or me but the CR is awesome, I sleep through the night!

Last night I managed five hours before I woke up (had to pee, even though I didn't drink much after 7pm) and then an additional two hours. This seems to be the best I can manage, which is frustrating and not very restful - but better than nothing!

I ended up waiting about three hours after supper. I really wanted to go to bed earlier, but my guts disagreed and were sending me weird signals, so just waited.

Question on the CR - would I still wake up if I got those "signals" from my guts? I'm paranoid of not waking up!

I tried Ambien and it worked ok for a while then I became too accustomed to it so the doc gave me some samples of the CR and it worked much better. However, my insurance didn't cover it - go figure. Anyway, I don't know if you would feel your "signals" or not because I know for me, there was NO waking me up after taking the CR. I could wake up with the regular Ambien even though I was zombified if woken up before 8 hours. You can call your doc to see if they can give you a few samples to see if it will work or not. Then that way you won't be wasting your money and you can see if that is what you will need for a good rest also on how your guts react in the middle of the night while on it.
