I have to have an MRI of my small and large intestines on Wednesday before my surgery.  When speaking about this, the surgeon said I didn't need to do any prep.  When I received the instructions and appointment reminder in the mail, the secretary requests liquid diet the day before and products that you use for c'oscopy prep.  I would prefer not to, as I must take myself to that appointment and would prefer to not be weak/sore/tired/hungry from numerous bathroom trips and no nourishment.
I would prefer to eat my regular diet, only changing 'dinner' to a liquidy soup and waiting for after the MRI for breakfast.  I can bring a banana.
I plan on calling the Surgeon's office tomorrow, but has anyone had to clena out their bowels for an MRI?

Hi...nope, never had to do so....but I had the MRCP which is for the liver...but it did my whole abdomen. I think I had to do a fast the night before..no eating after a certain time (because we went for breakfast afterward). Sorry I can't remember, but I would definitely had remembered if I had to do a purge.

Let us know what the surgeon's office states..I'm curious.

******s called this afternoon to confirm my appointment and remind me about the liquid diet and magnesium citrate drink in the early evening. :-/
My 'stools' have been very liquid-y for the past several days and I am still contemplating not getting the mag/cit drink. But I don't want to do something to screw this up for me, so I'll probably crab and moan and drag my feet to the pharmacy to buy a bottle of that nasty crap.
See? The crabbing and moaning has started already.

Crabbing and moaning, moaning and crabbing. I'm waiting until after "Deadliest Catch" before I drink the Mag/Cit.

lol - crabbing! I was watching that too :) Good luck, I know it sucks, but better to do the flush and get your test done right the first time, rather than being sent home or have to do it over. Hope everything goes well! *huggles*

I just noticed your siggie. I want a box of kittens, stat!, too. I'll tell Hubby, but I'm sure he won't be impressed. *sniff* We have 10 cats, but none of them are kittens. Everyone knows kittens make you feel better!

I'm being bad. I haven't drank the Mag/Cit yet. I better go do it and get it over with...

Hehe, kittens, they are the best meds going! Have three cats myself.

Dx:  UC Proctitis 2006

Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.

Started Meds:  Apr 9 08 500mg 5ASA (salofalk) to ease flare, tapering.

Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).

Added: tumeric and probiotics.

11 kittehs, here. (all s/n and rescues)

Well, the reason for the clean-out was because they wanted me to drink some nasty, thick stuff to be able to do a contrast MRI. At least now I know. Still didn't make it any easier to do.

eww, glad it had a purpose after all. Hope it went well!

My 2 cats are full-grown, but they have at least an hour a day where they tear around the house like crazy :)
