Had colitis for a few years now using Asacol daily 2 3 times a day and got what i thought was a flare up seen specialist using predfoam twice a day but still not clear if it's colitis or something else? The inflammation in the morning causes major pain even when passing urine & the burning goes along the urethra and is mind blowing to say the least, I've had urine checked for uti but nothing is showing up, anybody had a similar experience, I am susceptible to yeast infection so I'm thinking along those lines again I've had treatment but not clearing up! Thxs for any help u can give!

Hi and Welcome! Have you seen a urologist? If the pain is that bad when you are urinating it definitely sounds like you need to get some answers!! Keep us posted.

Hi
I'm booked to see a urologist in two weeks time, should be fun (not). The day to day with UC is bad enough, but this has taken it to a new level! I'm using hemorrhoid treatment to numb the burning, I'm not one for using pain killers.

Hi..welcome to the forum.

I had the same thing ongoing for a year after my first bladder infection (after having tubal ligation from the catheter). The urolotist thought I might have interstitial cystitis...which he mentioned there's a connection with UC...joy!).

I had a cystoscopy (bladder scope) done and after that....NO problems.

I would strongly suggest you use a good probiotic, maybe try a vaginal yeast medication (single ovule plus the external cream) and to increase your fluid intake.

Curious what your diet is like....are you consuming any artificial sweeteners?

I have had some bladder pain which I was told could be Interstitial Cystitis. My gyno said well you may have IC so just take these pills, Elmiron or something, and i read the leaflet which said it causes bloody stools and colitis so I waited. I was supposed to go to the Urologist but the pain has lessened some so I didn't ever go. Later when I mentioned the whole thing to my GI he was like DON'T EVER EVER take Elmiron! It is so bad for UC! So, I hope it's not IC for you. The pain I have feels like my bladder is soo sore, as if I hadn't been to the bathroom for many hours.

It is always good to run new meds by your GI. Anytime my primary wants to put me on something I call my GI's nurse to get the okay.

Lol best you don't ask! I was a chef in my earlier years so I tend to like my food, mostly stuff I've been told isn't that good for colitis, there's not much I don't eat other than wholemeal & oats that give me problems, and I have a fondness for a large bowl of salad and fresh fruit' which again I've been told is not the best! But hey, thats life lol. I use canderel sweeteners with tea & coffee is that a bad thing?

Oh & Thxs for all the replys

The food/salads is a good thing from my perspective...if you have looser stools, then just cut back a bit. It's best to eat as many different foods as you can...again from my perspective, rather than baby your digestive tract by only eating squishy and non-fibre foods.

Sugar...at least your body knows what to do with it.

Aspartame...not a good thing on any level...that's the main ingredient in canderel from what I've read.

I'm hoping you just have a spasming bladder....that in itself can cause some irritation...but you will be checked out for IC. Do the research on it (it can be anxiety provoking)...but at least you'll be able to formulate questions for the urologist. I suggest you be ready for the appointment. Make a list of your meds, etc.

Dicyclomine helps for bladder spasming.

Oh, how old are you? Sometimes hormonal ups and downs can cause dryness in the bladder/urethra, as can autoimmune disease such as Sjogren's.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing....

You're welcome for the reply.

Ycould use honey or sugar in the raw. Another suggestion lately (as per Dr. Oz) is agava syrup.

Do watch if you chew gum....they all have artificial sweeteners in them...and my old fave since the 60s (wrigley's doublemint) has been defiled.

I have found one gum that has only ONE sweetener (xylitol)...and that's the one I have been chewing. Glee gum has sugar, but it's mega expensive and is either hard as a rock with no flavour after 5 chews and sticks to my teeth.

I can relate...I'm 53 and feeling as you....interesting when I go do my 95 year old client (colour and pin set), because she gives me motivation...lol!

Keep use posted regarding how you're doing.
