Hi All,
From seeing the doctor on Weds, he said I really should be on meds (mild inflammation he saw instantly when he was looking up my rearend) and I've come to the conculsion that yes I need something to get me over the hump. I took one asacol this morning just to start and I will take one tonight and build up if I need to. I will start Canasa tonight as well. All these meds make me dizzy though, so the doctor said do less to start and work up from there. The Lialda was a huge pill and to think all the meds in that one pill freaks me out. How strong is it compared to one Asacol? But since I started Asacol I won't switch now.

Who likes asacol and who likes Lialda?

To vent, I'm not happy and it makes me cry to think I have to do meds. However, the constant battle of diet and supplements has taxed me, period. The vitamin E enemas does work, but you have to be 100% on the diet. I can't do the enemas this week b/c of the hemmroids rubberbanding my doctors said hold off until the hemmroids die off and the rubberbands come out. If I was at home all the time and not exposed to eating out at work or a lunch on the run I'd be better off. I do pack my lunch a lot, cooking it at night takes most of my time. Yes, it's worth my health. Just one slip up and you're screwed though. I'm trying trust me.

I will see how I do on the asacol.  I started the Digest Advantage yesterday and I did need a probiotic in my supplement regimin anyways. They are half off right now at Rite-Aid. Really all I want is no urgency and to be able to pass gas without anything coming out with it. I miss those days.
Pray for me and I will pray for you. Thanks. Down in the dumps right now,
Linda

Hey Linda! Sorry you are having a tough time right now. Maybe give the Asacol a few days for your body to adjust to the new med. Most meds make me totally nauseous. Maybe taking it after a meal will help.

You hang in there and keep us posted!

One Lialda (1.2g mesalamine) is the equivalent of three Asacol (400mg mesalamine).

Take it slowly and hope for the best!

Thank you for sharing that info. 400 mg is equivalent to how many Tylenol would you say? I know that sounds funny but in my mind I need to relate it to something I can tolerate.

I have been on and off a ton of meds in the past 7 months. I can tell you that sometimes I notice it when I start taking it and sometimes I notice it more when I am coming off of it.

For instance my Enalpril dose went up and the first day I was dizzy and lightheaded and tired.

For prednisone (besides all the fun of all the regular side effects) I am tapering it and now at 10mg and my appetite is much lower, also I think it has to do w/the pred masking the Imuran (loss of appetite) nothing really appeals to me now, my apptite is much less than before I started all these.

I understand not wanting to be on drugs totally. I'd lke to be on as few as possible, so watch your side effect and contact your Doc if you are worried.
