Hi there, I've been doing quite well lately. My GI is doing an experiment with me and so far it seems to be working.
I've only ever been able to go for a couple of months without blood on my stool. There's never very much, just some streaking. My stools have always been well formed and I have 2 bm's most days...sometimes 3.
Since my UC is extends only about 20cm (8 in.) up, he has me doing salofalk enemas every night for 2 months, then he wants me to taper to 2 nights on 1 night off for another month. Then I go see him to see where I stand. He also want to take me off asacol completely. I told him I wasn't sure about going off the asacol...we'll see. I've tapered down to 4 asacol most days.
I've been doing the enemas every night since the last time I saw him, which was march 6. I've been blood free (except for the odd speck) for almost a month now.
Today I had a normal bm this morning, but this afternoon it looked really strange. I keep a flashlight on the back of each toilet in the house so I can inspect my poo. It had really dark, blueberry colour in it so I thought I would inspect it further. I also keep disposable gloves for poo fishing occasions.
Most of the stool was very fiberous and the dark areas were mostly in the middle. When I picked up the poo, the fibre part floated away and I was left with gelatinous dark blue stuff in my hands. It wasn't like the usual mucous I used to get (which I haven't had in many many months). It was more like jello, or consommé.
Now, let me just say that my period just started today for the first time in 3 months (perimeno) and I do eat a mix of berries every morning with my cereal (blueberries, blackberries included).
I've seen the dark globs in there before, but never fished around in there like I did today. I assume it too was probably gelatin like. I had a gastroscopy done in Dec and there was nothing showing in my stomach.
I've been feeling fine. Is this something I should be worried about, or could the berries mixed with the fibre in my cereal cause this weird dark blue gelatinous poo?
Sorry for the long post, but poo stories are that way sometimes... :)
