Hey all!

My UC has been "active" for about 4 years now, but since I've been taking REMICADE over the past year, it has gotten better (I'm taking nothing else). Unfortunately for me, I was also diagnosed (and hospitalized) for pancreatitis about 2 1/2 years ago, but it taken care of, after about two weeks. Every now and again, I will have abdominal pain (a la pancreatitis), but nothing worth hospitalizing.

Yesterday, after my latest REMICADE shot, things were going great, as I didn't even have to go to the bathroom ONCE all day (except for some gas). But as I slept through the night, I was awakened by MAJOR ABDOMINAL PAIN, which felt a LOT like my pancreatitis days.

It's been about 24 hours now and the pain is still VERY STRONG.

I DID finally start having bowel movements after the pains started, but they didn't really help the pains go away all that much. If I stay the same one more day, I will have to check myself into the hospital again, because the pains are very STRONG.

It almost felt like the fact that my "stool" was holding in my stomach somewhat CAUSED the pancreatitis pains.

Anyone go through anything similar or have any advice for me?

Just when you think the UC getting under control, this pancreatitis thing starts up (by the way, they had determined back then, that the cause of my pancreatitis was likely from PREDNISONE or PURINETHOL, which I was taking at the time-- I stopped both of them right after that and never took them again).

Hi!  I too have chronic pancreatitis with UC.  I have many flare ups of my pancrea*** also.  It usually just happens randomly.  My Dr hasn't found the cause of my Pancreatitis (and believe me I've had every test!)  He thinks maybe Cystic Fibrosis.  I know what you mean about the severe abdominal pain.  My heart sinks everytime I feel like I'm startine to have a flare up!  My Dr did say that he believes if my UC got under control better that would stop the frequency of the pancreatitis flare ups.  I started REmicade about a month ago and am due for my 3rd infusion in 2 weeks.  I had a flare up of the pancreatitis right before my second infusion so they had to give me my remicade the next day after they checked my pancreatic enzymes.  My Dr said that if you have a flare up of pancreatitis you should call and let them know so they can check your levels before Remicade.  Supposedly they can't infuse you if you are having a severe flare up.   If your pancreatitis is chronic though, the symptoms wil bee more severe than the numbers will reflect.  Hope you feel better soon!  Have a great day!
