Hi everyone!  I'm new here.  I was 34 almost 35 when I first got sick in Dec 03.  I was hospitalized 6 times in a six month period.  I've used Prednisone (which I will never take again) Asacol (doesn't work for me either) a couple rounds of Remicade and 6mp.  I am currently not on any meds and symptom free.  It took awhile to get here, with many ups and downs, but I'm to a point where I forget I even have a chronic illness.  I actually came on here cause I had a question sort of pertaining to UC and after reading alot, it brought back alot of memories.  I wish everyone on here well and pray that one day nobody will have to suffer from this disease.

Welcome. Congrats on not taking any meds! I think you are also a good example of the many folks out there who have the disease and are doing well. My point--they aren't likely here on these boards! They're hopefully out enjoying life. While this forum is great, it is good to be reminded that there are many with UC out there doing well, in contrast to the few on here who are quite ill.
UC diagnosed Dec. 2006
Azathioprine 200mg/day
Prednisone 2.5 (trying to taper-started at 60mg 6/1/07)
Multivitamin, B complex vit., fish oil, calcium, fiber supplement, probiotic, adrenal support

Congratulations on your good health!  I'm lucky in that my body responded very well to Asacol. I was diagnosed on 10/31/05, and after 5 days on Asacol was able to leave the house, take my DH to dinner for his b'day, and was about 75% symptom free.  I'm still on Asacol and probably will be for the duration.

Good to see success stories here and to know that a "normal" life is possible.  I just wish everyone could be so fortuneate!

Not thrilled with the diagnosis, but grateful to finally know what it is and learning how to treat it.

Yes, my congrats to you, too. I also enjoyed a very long (15 years!!) meds-free remission. I was convinced I really didn't have this disease anymore, actually. lol. My best wishes for your remission to last forever.
