I am supposed to have an upper scope done on Wed to see if I have gerd or an ulcer. My problem is I am flaring and am not sure what to do. My doctor wanted me to try dicyclomine for IBS to see if that helped my problems(which I don't think it is doing anything but making me tired). But I am worried about controlling the diarrea enough to get out of the house, get put under for the scope and get home. I have never taken Imodium before. Do you think that if I took it at midnight Tuesday night I would be fine for 10:15 scope? I cant eat or drink after midnight. I think if I just don't eat Tuesday I will just be going all liquid.

I feel bad becuase I have called my doctor so much in the last few months. I guess I could call and get on prednisone again but that seems kindof extreme just to have the scope done. I think he wants to try other things besides prednisone.

I am soooo sick of being sick!!!

I have always taken immodium or Lomotil before I leave to go for my scopes.  If my test was scheduled for the morning I make sure I'm up in plenty of time so I can go as many times before I leave.  Then about 30min before I leave I take an anti-diahrea pill.  It has always helped  and I told my GI that I did take it and he was fine with it.  Sometimes its the only way to make it to where you need to go.

You might want to check with your DOC first, just in case.

Imodium is pretty fast acting, though in my experiance it isn't that long lasting maybe 6 hours at most. I recomend taking it like Puffed Rice said about 30 min before you leave. Though me personally, I'd do an hour just to be on the safe side :)

They also make a chewable imodium now and it seems to work a little faster.
