I am currently having one of the worse flares I can remember ever having...
Does anyone eat baby food during a flare?

Thanks,

I tried eating baby food instead of adult food to see if it would make any difference for me, it didn't but everyone is different and during a really bad flare it won't hurt...you could also try a liquid diet for 2-3 days during a really bad flare as well, this will at least give the bowels a rest.

I don't eat baby food, but what I call "baby food". Cream of wheat, blended soups, oatmeal, bananas, anything easily tolerated! Good luck!

Yes! When I am flaring badly I only eat baby food, rice, and very lean chicken. My doctor actually was the one to suggest it becuase i couldn't handle fruits and veggies while flaring. He told me that while flaring to treat my colon like a newborn babies colon. Dont' give it anything you would't give a baby.

It's not nearly as nasty as it used to be. I go organic mostly and stick to 1st stage for awhile before adding stage 2.

Do what you need to get the vitimins and minerals you need. Baby food is good for babies for a reason. It is good for us too.

Hmmm... that's probably a good way to get some fruits and veges into a low residue diet... I'm finally starting to add things back to my diet - this might have helped... I usually follow something similar to what Traci described.

It shouldn't be much different than making your own baby food, alot of moms do that, they puree cooked veggies and freeze them, same with fruits...even baby food has some additives in it for shelf life, so you'd almost be better off making your own at home puree it yourself then you know for sure what's in it.

Problem is - when I'm flaring - there is NO energy to make food :( There's hardly energy to go to the store to BUY food.

The strained food, or "Firsts", is about 70% water, but will provide some needed nutruients.

And strained bananas and peaches are super on toast, especially if you warm them first. Strained veggies are a little harder for me to take. I've never eaten it in a flare, but when I worked in Pediatrics, we used to take the toast that was left on the breakfast cart and spread it with strained fruits from jars we kept in the warmer. Bananas are my fave.

I love the bananas too, and the pears are good!

Yep, I recommend Stage 3 of Earth's Best (organic). I especially like their "Spring vegetables with pasta"! Warmed up & spread on low-salt pita--- mmmmmm. Goes down easy, comforts the stomach, & passes pretty uneventfully thru the inflamed parts, in my experience. It tastes like food, too, so how can we go wrong? The Whole Foods Markets stock it + other combos. (Agree that Stage 1 baby food is pretty much liquid.) / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
