Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice here. I just had my daughter 8 weeks ago and I'm starting to flare again. I've had my UC under control since Christmas when I received IV steroids in the hospital. I tapered my prednisone VERY slowly and just stopped taking it around the same time my daughter was born. I really don't want to go on steroids again - don't feel like they helped much last time anyways. Anyone have any advice for getting a flare under control before it gets really bad? I've just got a little blood in my BMs and a little cramping. Frequency isn't too bad at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I see that you have the Salofalk enema listed in your signature, nightly? Are you currently doing them?

In a flare for 2 very long years which Asacol didn't help at all.  Finally in remission again since Jan 2008, can't believe it..............

Can you increase your Salofolk? I'm not sure if it works like Asacol. I take 12 regularly but can go up to 16 at the start of a flare. Maybe try to increase that?

I also agree with moving to a steroidal rectal med.

Are you breastfeeding? The flare may be hormonal in nature.
Proud new mom of a beautiful baby boy!
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 3x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

try doubling up the enema - one in the am and one in the pm.  If you're scared you won't be able to retain it by day - try using a suppository - like Canasa - same meds as the solafolk - just lower dose (they come 500 mg or 1000 mg - I would recommend at least the 1000 mg).

congrats on the baby!  the start of the flare could be exhaustion along with hormones.
