My entire family, including me, is down and out with a horrible stomach flu -- D, vomitting, stomach cramps. Lovely.

I am steroid dependent, and I have been slow tapering my Prednisone, and am down to 15 mg. When I called my GI to tell him about the flu, he recommended immodium and an increase to 40 mg of Pred for one day (and then to go back down to my regular dose). He said that it wouldn't hurt my system to have that short increase. He also told me to hold off on my scheduled Humira shot.

I haven't yet altered the Pred dose... has anyone else done anything like that before? I'm scared of side effects/withdrawal afterwards, etc...

Any opinions would be so helpful!

Currently on 40mg Prednisone again since mid-March flare, ack

Oh no! That is the worst. I have never heard of increasing pred. for one day. However I had bronchitis last year and I went on a 5 day course of pred. You hang in there!!

Thanks, Tab.

Luckily, I now truly know my Humira is working, b/c I am starting to shake off the flu symptoms. I decided not to mess with the Prednisone -- I am steroid dependent, and the thought of a drastic temporary change just didn't sit well with me. My GI is very good, but he never seems to get how sensitive my system is regarding the steroid use/taper.
