I haven't been on lately mainly b/c I have been going through fertility treatment and that has consumed my life for the past two years (even with UC flaring multiple times.)  Anyway, I have had some strange symptoms and I do not know what is related to what (if anything) and I wanted to check with some of you. I have hypoglycemia, which is controlled with diet. Lately my blood sugar drops every two hours if I do not eat. I have dropped 6 lbs without trying. I have nausea much of the time. I wake up with it some days. My hands tremble, which is very strange. The lymph nodes on the back of my head swell sometime for no reason. I am tired all the time (I know, we are all used to having this.) I was getting strange rashes all over my body but that has gone away. Now my stools are the size of a pencil. Anyone else have some of these strange symptoms? I know nausea can be stomach but my stomach has felt fine for once. Maybe I am finally crazy from the UC and fertility treatments and it's time to check myself into the "special place" where I can get help? tongue   All joking aside, the pencil stools have me freaked out. I have a gastro appointment on the 29th but I'd like any feedback you guys have. Thank you!

Angel, I wouldn't even begin to guess how the hormones would interact with your UC. I think the doctor is your best bet. Let us know what you find out.

Well I was on hormones on and off for two years but I am totally off now. Been off for awhile now (we used a surrogate and she is pregnant.) I have hypothyroidism and thought maybe my medication needed to be reduced. I talked to my primary doc and he ran my thyroid, a basic panel and inflammation test. I haven't heard back yet. But the pencil stools is something I've never had before now. Who knows. I think this disease is one of those things that always keeps us on our toes!

The thin stools can be caused by a constriction in the bowel or hemmorhoids narrowing the anal opening.

Regarding blood sugar issues, a high protein diet with healthy fats and complex carbs, avoiding simple carbs and sugars and eating six small meals will be a huge help.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.
Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal.

Thin stools can also be caused by rectal inflammation. Are you feeling any "pressure" down there? Might be good to start on some Canasa or Rowasa to reduce inflammation in the rectum.
Pan-colitis and GERD diagnosed May 2003
Osteopenia diagnosed Feb 2006
Status:  Flaring :(
