Hello all!

So i am one of those who cannot tolerate asacol at all! my last gi put me on it 5 or 6 times because he just refused to believe that it exacerbated my symptoms. he actually told me that NO ONE, EVER had been unable to tolerate asacol, apparently i was a modern marvel. he also said that though he didnt believe that asacol worsened my symptoms and thought it was all in my head, if i had made myself believe that asacol made things worse than i would also be completly unable to handle colazal. which actually gave me about 3 months of relief when i started it.
So my question now is:

has anyone who is asacol intolerant been able to use the salofalk enemas with success?

thanks a million!

The enemas (Rowasa here) caused the same increase in symptoms as Asacol did for me, only more quickly.

There are definitely people who can't tolerate certain 5ASA meds..for whatever reason. There are some who cannot take any salicylates.

Don't know why your doc would say that.

For some, it's a matter of amount....9 may cause more symptoms, 6 is perfect.

*Heather*Status: mini flare Dec 28... tapered to every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~5ASA: Asacol (6 daily) + Salofalk enemas (increase for flares tapered to maintenance)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~vitamins/minerals/supplements
~Probiotic 3(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + 1 (Primadophilus Reuteri) occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed ....zymactive 3 - 5x daily
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux) Effexor XR 75mg;  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!
