Hi, has anyone out there been on prednisone for over a 2 year period? I am feeling really angry at my GI for letting me be on pred for so long without advising or alerting me as to how serious this medication is. Is it common to be on prednisone this long? Help, looking for words of support and wisdom.

Welcome to HealingWell, Luis. I was on Prednisone then Entocort for nearly five years. I had a serious fracture requiring surgery due to osteoporosis, type II diabetes and avascular necrosis. It's a grim drug to take for long periods. My GI only left me on it because Entocort supposedly isn't absorbed systemically and doesn't cause the side effects. I proved that wrong!

How much of your colon is involved, and what medications are/have you been on in addition to the Prednisone? A little more information will be helpful to the group in addressing your questions.

Thanks Judy,
Recently it was left sided coliltis The GI was concerned because it was mild to moderate while on the Remicade.
I have taken Asacol, Azulfadine, Mesalimine Suppositories, Rowesa, Dipentum, Pentasa, Colazal, Cortifoam, Imuran, and Prednisone while on the other medications.
If the higher dose of Remicade does not get me off steroids, then I was told possibly Humera. It has been 9 years since my diagnosis and I am so glad I finally found this website.
