After an agonizing weekend I finally got in w/ my primary today. I have strep throat. YIKES! Do 31 year olds really get this?! She said looking in my throat was like looking in the throat of a sick 3 year old (hmmm I know who to blame for this one!).

I'm on Levaquin. Will start doubling up on the probiotics today. I haven't have a fever in forever. It was 102 this morning and definitely making me loopy.

No wonder you've been feeling so rotten, Tab! Take those antibiotics until they're all gone and feel better soon.

Thanks guys:) I'm already having some D. I'm taking my probiotics and I only take the Levaquin for 5 days. Any D w/ antibiotics makes me a bit nervous.

Oh, yuck! Sorry you caught strep & hope the med wipes it out real quick. Maybe eating some farina & plain boiled rice can help minimize D. Best wishes! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Hey so do we all bbc!! LOL :0) I'm so sorry you are sick AGAIN Tab. Strep throat is absolutely horrible. I'm sure I asked you this before but have you had your tonsils out? If not, please look into getting them removed. You sound so much like me when I was your age. I was always getting sick with strep, sinus infections, bronchitis etc. My doc said that my tonsils were making me sick instead of filtering the bad stuff out. And after I had them removed - I hardly ever get sick anymore!

Sherry...I made it almost an entire 4 months healthy. That has to be some kind of record for me...haha! Yes I do have my tonsils. And yes everyone thinks I need them out! I was so out of it yesterday I didn't think to ask. As I was leaving my primary reminded me I needed a tentnus shot. When I go in to get that I'll talk to her about it then. I honestly never got sick more than a couple of times a year until the Imuran and little one went off to preschool.

Weird thing...I woke up around 2am soaking wet. I had to change clothes. But I had no fever this morning.

I came down with strep for the first time ever this year. Had my tonsils taken out as a child. I'm guessing Remicade weakened my immune system, but it's still worth it.

Having your tonsils out as an adult is super rough. When I had mine out, I was on liquid narcotic pain relievers for about 2 weeks. The pain was intense since I had both my tonsils and adnoids removed. But honestly I can say that it was totally worth it now. Sure I still get sick but usually it's with some strange virus thingy that knocks me down for a few days every single January - just before my birthday no less! :)

My son gets horrible sore throats too. Looking back when he got his ear tubes I wish they would have removed the adnoids too...to save him suffering later on.

I'm hanging in there. Day 2 down on the antibiotics. Still having some d but nothing too bad. Thanks everyone:)

Oh Tab that's awful!!! I hate strep!! I got it over Christmas break. The weird thing is, I lived in a dorm and I was more sick while I was at home than I was at school!! When I was a kid I was a carrier. They don't normally get symptoms but I was unlucky and I had it probably 6 times a winter. Just one more way my immune system is just screwed up!
I hope you feel better soon. I hope you got a good kind of antibiotic that's easy on your tummy :)

6 times in a winter? Yikes!

Tons of D today. Those stinking antibiotics...I think they are working but they are wrecking havoc on my intestines.

Sorry to hear you have strep! I've never had strep, but have had some horrible throat infections, so I know how much it sucks. Definitely look into getting your tonsils out. I had mine out last fall and it wasn't all that bad. It hurt way worse with the infection I had than after the surgery. Plus, I got two weeks off of work to recover! =)

Is your throat feeling any better today?

i hope you're feeling better! I see the parents in my office go through the same thing -- healthy as horses until the little ones start going to school and bring home all sorts of bugs. Then the parents get sick, and bring them to the office to share with us :)

My issue was chronic sinus infections - for years every time I got a cold, I ended up with sinusitis, bronchitis or both. Last year I had sinus surgery and fixed my deviated septum. No sinus infections this year! But if you're not having chronic throat infections, your doc might suggest trying other stuff before having surgery.

Definitely rest as suggested. You do want it all to go away rather than some it left to simmer and have get worse.

You should feel better by the weekend.

Oh, to bulk up the stool, you could use fibre supplements...the bulking kind.

Hopefully things will firm back up soon. Only two more days left of antibiotic. Going to rest now. Thanks everyone!!

Oh I missed that in your siggie...I don't know what the daily recommended dosage is of fibercon...if you can take more, maybe it'll help since it is the bulking kind of fibre.
