My doctor put me on a 40 mg taper and it has been two days and I am not getting better. Last time I felt better in a couple of hours. I have been bleeding alot for the last week or so. I am concerned because I am supposed to go on vacation on Sunday. Should I ask to go to a higher dose? I have never bled this much in my life. I have been getting up all night every two hours or so. Any ideas?

If I remember right, it took me around 4 or 5 days to see some improvment with pred. But, then again, everybody is different. Are you currently doing the entocort?? Good Luck

I have just come out of a flare. It took me 3 weeks at 40mg to get things under control then I tapered by 5 mg per week, down to 15mg on Friday fingers crossed all keeps going well.

Each time I do a taper of Prednisone, it takes a bit longer to work. On average, it takes about a week for me. The first time, it took 2 days. The last time, it took 8 days.

Hang in there and give it a bit more time. If you aren't better in 7-10 days, I would give your doc a call.

Thank you all for your replys - I am just stressing about it. I am just hoping I am better before my flight on Sunday. I stopped the entocort when I started the pred. The entocort works perfect for me for a couple of weeks and then it just quits.

The first time I flared 40mg kicked in quickly. The second flare I had to go up to 60mg to get the same effectiveness. Have you asked if there is another rectal med you can do in addition to the pred?

omg. I bet the stressing about vacation isn't helping either! I don't have any suggestions, but want you to know that I hope you feel better! Where are you going on vacation, btw?

I've had it take anywhere from overnight to 3 weeks for the pred to start making a difference. As with darn near everything else with this silly disease, it seems completely random to me.

I'm going to california to visit my parents for a week. At least they have two bathrooms:) I was literly up all night every 45 mins to an hour going to the bathroom. I have never been this bad how likely is it that the Colazal could be causing it? I have been on it for two weeks. I switched from asacol.

My doctor said that rectal meds will not help because I didn't have inflammation in my rectum but I wonder if I do now. Sometimes I feel like I have to go and nothing will come out or just a little blood. Does anyone know if this means my rectum is inflamed? I have some steroid suppositories that he gave me for a hemmi. Would those help?

The Colazal could be causing it. Did the D start after you switched over from Asacol?

Yes, but I can't tell it my flair was just getting worse or if it could be from the colazal. I didn't feel like the asacol was helping and it doesn't seem to keep me in remission so I thought I should switch my maintaince drug before going on pred but now I don't know what to do. I feel worse than I have ever felt before. I am seeing a little less blood since the pred but its very much still there and I am going to the bathroom 15-20 times. It seems a little more solid this morning.
