I know people have said this but my doctor says he hasn't ever heard this. Has anyone ever seen anything "official" other than a side effect being diarrhea on the website? He is going to fit me in tommorow to see him - I thought maybe I could find something to print out.

Oh absolutely. Some doctors just refuse to acknowledge that the drugs are actually making you worse... I know mine always do. Colazal gave me severe acid reflux/heartburn and nausea, as well as doing nothing to help my colitis symptoms and I actually got worse during the time I was taking it. Asacol does the same thing to me. Yet the doctors always, always prescribe it and say "Well we'll just up the dose". when in actuality I do better OFF them than I do on them. I don't know about any official statements anywhere about other side effects but that's just my own personal experience. I hate when they don't listen, when we obviously know better than they do about what's going on with our bodies :(

Colazal has helped me, although I definitely notice I feel ALOT better when I take 6 pills a day vs. 9.  I've been prescribed 9 but have just recently lowered it (gradually) and I'm feeling alot better now.

Seemed like the 9 colazal was giving me loose/watery stools.

- Diagnosed with moderate left-sided colitis - November 2007
- Colazal 3 (3 times daily)
- Probiotic

Some UCers are allergic to 5-ASA meds. I cannot tolerate Colazal at full dose longer than 10 weeks because my eyelids start to puff up & itch at that stage. There are a whole range of patient reactions to various IBD meds; that is called "heterogeneity of response" in doctor lingo. Your doctor should get with it & read the appropriate IBD treatment info since he/she seems to be dismissing your complaint out-of-hand. Don't put up with that-- my advice. Get helpful answers at upcoming appointment or seek out a more informed gastro. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

I don't know what I would do without this site. I just feel like I am getting sicker and sicker and I can't tell what is causing it. Thank you all for replying - I am going to see him tomorrow afternoon.

I've gotten down to 4 colazal/day. I think the 9 and even 6 were given me loose stools. I seem to be doing great at the moment on 4/day.

for the record I just realized I was taking the generic for the last week and the week before I was taking the original as I had samples from the doctor. I am feeling better all ready after just missing 3 doses.
