I saw my GI doc Tuesday.  I am now back on flagyl, cipro, 40mg pred along with my regular maintenance meds.  I am still no better - I have probably already been 15 times today.  Do I call him?  Really, what else can I take?  I am afraid if I call him he will want me in the hospital.  Maybe this just hasn't had time to work yet.

I think prednisone can sometimes take longer to kick in.  It took nearly a week for me.  I think I would wait a few more days if possible, unless it got to the point of not being able to stand up or keep any food or liquids in.

I would give it a few more days. It takes awhile for the Prednisone to get it healed. Good luck!

In my experiance with Pred, is that each time you go on it or increase it, it takes longer to kick in than the last time. So just keep plugging away.

It can take a bit of time for pred to kick in especially the more times you go on the less effective it can be (that's been my experiance and I've heard this can be a common thing)...one thing I wanted to mention is that if you're taking antibiotics it's a really good idea to be taking a good probiotic daily as well (at least 2 hours AFTER you're finished taking antis for the day) and even when you're not taking antibiotics it's a good idea to take probiotics daily and indefinitely...alot of people have noticed minor to major improvements with their symptoms due to taking them.

Have your symptoms gotten worse since being on the antibiotics? I felt worse being on flagyl, and actually felt better after getting off it. If your meds are not working in a reasonable amount of time, I would ask my doc about another source of treatment, especially the antibiotics. Sometimes they can be a dark horse in this whole treatment thing. Ditto the probiotics advice. What else have you tried? Have you tried any natural methods...antifungal/SC Diet? It's hard to know what might work. Sometimes you just have to experiment with different things until you find the one that works for you. The key is to keep changing until you find it! You won't get better doing the same old, if the same old doesn't help. Take care...........

hope you are feeling better by now, the prednisone does take a little while to kick in sometimes, but hopefully it can get your flare under control, good luck

Thanks for all the replies.  My GI doc put me in the hospital for 5 days.  I am still very sick.  Trying to just hang in there...

SoccorMom:

Sorry to hear your story....as I was single most of the time I have had this, I have often wondered how Mom's handle this diesease AND taking care of kids...wow!  I probably couldn't handle it.

I'm married now w/two step kids.  If it had happened earlier, I don't  know what I would have done.

Let us all know how you are doing.

I have just come out of a flare and it took 3 weeks at 40mg to get things under control.  My doctor always says you will be better in 1 week but that is never the case for me.
