I just heard from the doctors office that I need a follow up visit since my Dexa Scan came back that I am at risk of a fracture.  I have been on Prednisone since Dec 07 and currently take 10 mg daily.  What should I expect when I visit with the doctor next week?  Is bone density recoverable?  I need to consider the trade off of staying on Prednisone verus the risks of bone density issues.  I am not sure what to expect.

Can't really predict what your doctor will do, but possibly start you on a medication to prevent further bone loss, like Fosamax and recommend Calcium/vitamin D supplements and weight bearing exercise.

Hopefully they'll have some suggestions about getting off the Pred. Osteoporosis is only one of several really bad long-term effects of steroid use.
