1) As some of you may know I have recently switched from Asacol to Lialda and I have not been doing as well with the Lialda (I was doing great on the Asacol+rowasa) HOWEVER, we recently sold our home and we only have about a month to find a new one so my stress levels are quite high, so I don't know if the Lialda is at fault or it's the move, as I switched over right when all this happened...I would appreciate your thoughts. BTW I am not bleeding or having any D just looser stool extra gas and some right sided pain.  I have pancolitis moderate and have not had a major flair since 12/07 thanks to 8 asacol per day and rowasa...I am now on 3 Lialda and rowasa.

2) Do those of you that have your UC under control still get some stomach uneasyness/spasms sometimes after you have a BM?

3) (I know this is gross redface but...) Why is it that after a BM no matter how well I clean myself some residual stool will appear on the toilet tissue if I clean myself an hour later...is this due to the UC and if so why?

Thanks :-)

I would say that it can be a combination of both the med switch and your high stress levels. Have you tried going back to Asacol to see if that will help?

I sometimes have spasms after having a bm but it's minor and it doesn't really bother me while in remission. It's just sort of aggravating.

As for the residual stool, you can try wiping with baby wipes after a bm. That way it might clean you up more after each bm. Also too, this will be able to tell you if you were to wipe later and find some stool that you may have a leakage problem that you can ask your GI about.

I only recently would consider my UC under control, so my comments may not count, but sometimes if I eat a big meal, I have had stomach uneasiness and spasms during and after a bm. Sometimes it has been so bad that I actually vomit. I know better than to eat a big meal, but sometimes I risk it anyway.

Diagnosed in 2005
Ascacol - 9 per day, Endecort when needed - 3 in the morning, Azathioprine, 3 in the morning and 1 other med I can't remember the name of...16 pills total (this is only my meds for UC)
I also take a pill for High Blood Pressure, one for Acid Reflux, a couple Percoset per day for arthritis, and something to help me sleep whenever I'm on Endecort.
That's waaaaay to many meds!
