Thank you for thinking of me, sherry just AIMed me telling me that there was a post inquiring about my status..... I am still flaring but nothing too serious.

I've been working long long hours. So I haven't had much time to stop by and post.

I don't know if I ever responded to this before but I just decided to pop onto the boards and see how things are going when I found this old thread. I'm glad to say I'm doing very well these days! My wife and I have moved back to central NC after I finished my advanced degree late last year. For those who don't know I had surgery for non-responsive UC back in February of 2008 and after some pretty serious complications I went back to school in the fall. The economy hasn't done much to help things along career wise but I'm living an almost nearly identical lifestyle pre-UC after almost a year since my last surgery (July of 08). I'm looking forward to starting a career once things start improving around here, but until then life is peachy. If you are considering surgery I urge you to form your own opinion with the help, advice, and experience of others like those of us who have had their colons removed, your prospective surgeon, your GI, family, close friends and spouses! These people will be your greatest assets and they are absolutely invaluable when going through what has been, for me at least, the best decision I could have made regarding my disease.

Wow, that's terrific news about your recovery, Carlow! Glad you stopped by HF-UC to update us. Maybe you'll have time to advise here 'til the job market picks up. There are always new members and/or UCers in severe flares who are seeking recommendations from others who chose surgery in recent yrs. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
