I have developed a urinary tract infection.  I've been trying to use a couple of the home remedies...i.e. alka-seltzer (or baking soda) and cranberry juice.  So far, no success.  We leave on vacation in a week and I don't want to wait and run the chance of having to leave with this.  So...I'm sure my doctor will prescribe an antibiotic.  What antibiotic seems to be best tolerated?  I am just now coming off a 3 month stretch of being on prednisone (I had a pretty severe flare in March) and don't want to cause any more uproar in my digestive system than necessary.  I take probiotics and will up that a little to counteract the antibiotics.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

When I was on doxycycline for Lyme's disease, I doubled up on my probiotics and didn't have a problem with my UC.
Dx:  UC Proctitis 2006
Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.
Started Meds:  Apr 9 08 500mg 5ASA (salofalk) to ease flare, tapering, stopped.
Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).
 Added: tumeric and probiotics.
