Hi, Just recently my 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with severe uc per colonostomy. She had severe symptoms for 8 or 9 months. No insurance, but finally took her out of town. We got a good Gi specialist. He started her on Remicade immediately, but didn't work very well, stopped the bleeding pretty much, but did nothing for the dd or the stomach pain. I really enjoy reading this forum, some great advice, and so many different cases. Kind of blows my mind, but very helpful and informative for me. We started methotrexate shots at home on the 23. 2nd shot her numbers were up this past Tuesday for inflamation. This is very scary for me so can't even imagine how she feels. Basically, just wanted to say that since we was diagnosed I have read this forum almost everyday. It is great. Has anyone else tried methotrexate, and if so has it work.
                                         Thanks

Sorry about your daughter. I was 15 when I was diagnosed with left-sided UC. I started out with all the weaker drugs. I have never tried Methotrexate, my GI said he wouldn't give it to me because it is dangerous to the liver. I have taken Remicade, it took me almost a year for my diarrhea to settle down. How long did your daughter try Remicade? Right now I am on Humira which is working fairly well. When I was first diagnosed, the Rowasa enemas worked pretty well for me.
Diagnosed with Left-sided UC in 1995 at age 15, Prednisone, Rowasa & Hydrocort. Thank you for your replies. She took 3 sessions of Remicade, but didn't work even with the 1st one according to the GI. Red_34, thank you I will gladly ask away. Most of the medication lists are overwhelming. Again thanks to everyone for your response.

I am so very sorry that your daughter is dealing with this and I hope she gets to feeling better soon. Have they tried steroids? I take Remicade but I still flare so I have to get a course of Prednisone pretty regularly to keep mine under control. Good luck and please keep us posted on her progress!
