Well Monday I have my next colonoscopy.  Ohh joy :(

So I'm starting the prep stuff tonight, nothing like bland liquids and stuff that makes you poo.   Ohh well I've done it before I can do it again.

Be sure to reward yourself when you've completed the scope!

There is something about a prep that makes even chicken broth taste divine...

Best of luck!

I feel your pain. I started my prep today for a proctocolectomy on monday. What I wouldn't give for some solid food. Good luck drinking that salty, disgusting mess tomorrow. Someone suggested that I use a straw this time because then it bypasses some of your taste buds. It sounds good, we will see though. It should be some good times.

So, yeah this prep is nasty this time. Either its actually causing a flare, worsening a small flare, or I've ruptured a hemmy because I'm bleeding pretty good.

good luck with the prep.
as hungry as i am at the test, i find IMMENSE relief in the quiet office, in the dr.'s experienced care and actually try to be involved in it as much as i can. The dr. shows me the sight end and i can see the diff sections and what they look like.
at the very least, enjoy the sedative and its calming effects.....and the big lunch youll eat afterwards.

Time for an update. Okay, so I combined Tang with my golightly.  It made for some interesting BM colorment, but with only yellow dye #5 and 6 it was safe to drink plus the flavor allowed me to drink the nasty stuff rather easily.  Granted I made the Tang very very strong and also had it near ice cold.

The straw trick worked decently and I did try the apple juice thing too.  Both seemed to be sort of effective in getting the stuff down.

So, as far as the results go the GI who did my procedure said that I had inflamation throughout, though he did not say specifically if it was pancolitis.  I have a follow up on the 10th that will allow me to get some more answers.

They decided to put me on 6MPs since my reaction to 5ASAs was so bad.  That and they've bumped me back up to 40mg of Prednisone.  The Dr said I might be steroid dependent.  Such is life.

I'm not looking forward to the weekly blood screening as the VA hospital I go to is a good trip away and the gas prices suck.

Anyhow, that was my monday, how was yours?

I think for some of us, our Monday was better then yours! :) I'm sorry that you are in a bad way. 6mp and bloodwork is a pain in the tush but it may be what you need to get you onto the road to remission. When did the doc tell you to take it? I found that if I take it at night that the side effects are a lot more bearable. And be sure to drink lots of water while taking this.

I don't recall when he told me to take it and I didn't see anything in the directions about weather or not to take it in the AM or PM. I'll try it your way.

Why side effects are you talking about? I'm guessing the D. I could see how taking it at night might skip that little bit of joy. I hope I don't have to deal with the possible hair loss.

When you first start 6mp, you may get headaches, fatigue, and nausea but once your body become accustomed to it, that should lessen in a few weeks to a month. Also too, this isn't a fast acting med. It takes time to start working - anywhere from 3 months to a year.

Wow that is a lot longer than I've been told. I was told 3 weeks to a month to start seeing results, but that could be why they returned my Pred doseage to 40mg a day. Well I'm in this for the long haul so whatever it takes.

My husband - non-UCer - is scheduled to have his first colonoscopy later this month. (It's going to seem odd NOT being the one having the procedure.) They gave him a prep consisting totally of pills. Although I've never had it, I figure he's lucky not to have to drink any of the various preps. Anyone had the pills? I'd be curious to hear experiences so I can help him
know what to expect.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal.

Expect pretty much the same thing. I've only read about the pills but he is going to be taking a ton of them and still running back and forth to the toilet. He just doesn't have to taste the nasty stuff, so in a way he is lucky, but going to the bathroom so much your butt is sore isn't lucky by any means. Shame you cant just swallow a squeege type thing and have it all come out at once haha all though that might be a bit painful on the exit.

My last prep was only the pills - Osmoprep. It was was much much better then the nasty liquid. Though after taking the 15th one out of the 32 (or 36-can't remember) it started to taste like a salt lick! It didn't clean me out as fast as the liquid though and I was up all night long where the liquid, at least after I had my bathroom dashes I was done for the night.

Thanks, Sherry. Appreciate the input. I hate that he's having to go through this, but I'm betting he'll take it more in stride than I would.
