I've always been on the lower side of my iron...like 11.8 (normal is 12-16 I think).  The docs always tell me not to worry about it and even when I got pregnant they said to wait and see b/c it shouldn't be a problem.
I do remicade, so my week 5 iron was 11.8, and my week 12 iron was 8.2!!!  That's a 30% drop in 7 weeks!  And that was 4 weeks ago, so how low is it now!!
I'm pretty nervous.  I can't call my OB till in the morning, and it took my GI 4 weeks to mail me the blood results, never bothering to call even though she knew I was pg.  I'm just hoping my OB doesn't blow it off too.
Should I just not be worried about it??  I mean, that seems really low to me.  And such a big drop in a small time period...I just need some advice!!!
I started suppliments tonight, and I know to drink OJ when I take it to help absorbtion (even though I HATE it and it makes me want to gag!).  And I know it will probably make me sick.  :(  Any other tricks??

i did pretty well eating a lot of iron rich foods after i gave birth.
spinach, fortified cereal (like cream of wheat), etc.
i know if you're still doing scd you can't do the grains but you could do spinach. there is also a liquid form of iron that doesn't taste bad and is more readily absorbed than the pill form. it's called Floradix. then you don't have to mess with the OJ.

beets! (i would juice like 1/4 of a beet with tops and one apple and it was actually really tasty.)
any other dark leafy greens

that's all i can think of at the moment. i did a lot better with foods than with iron pills. they were pretty harsh on me at the time.
29, happily married, stay at home mom to 2.5 year old son. due to have another boy 9/17/08
UC (probably pancolitis, but no c-scope yet), diagnosed June 2006, started having major symptoms sometime in January 2006, about 3 months after childbirth. 2nd flare (minor) may 2007 after taking caprylic acid for 2 weeks.

-Prednisone 8/28/06-2/28/07. and again may '07, 8 week course.
-Prayer! asacol, probio, ground psyllium husk, prenatal, folic acid, cal-mag

may you live all the days of your life.
