The last few days I have had some intense joint/leg pains. Now my right shoulder is paining. :( I thought I slept on it one night but it seems to be constant now. Is this just another joint with pain related to UC or could it be something else? I have an appointment <finally> with my GI next Monday to get checked out and get back on some meds. But until then.. my shoulder is driving me crazy !!! Anyone else experiance shoulder pains?? I have even been driving with only me left arm because having my right hand on the steering wheel bothers my shoulder. arrrrrrgh !!

Thanks, in advance.

My intense shoulder pain was caused by avascular necrosis, or bone death, as a result of steroid use. Your GI may or may not be helpful with this; mine sometimes isn't too helpful with extra-intestinal symptoms. If not, see your primary or and orthopedist to get the issue diagnosed.

Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Asacol, Rowasa, Pentasa, Prednisone, Entocort, Azathioprine
Avascular necrosis in both shoulders is my "forever" gift from steroid therapy.

Could be some UC-related inflammation in the joint, but yeah, your GI probably won't be too helpful.

Weird! I had a similar problem recently, in my right shoulder as well. I was about to jog up the stairs to my apartment, and it felt like my shoulder wanted to dislocate. It really hurt and I had to support my arm so it didn't tug on the joint area. It stopped after awhile and I just attributed to my not so great posture at work [desk job] or something.

Though I do have this annoying thing where my shoulder joint pops in and out of place constantly when I move my arm, if you look at it you can see it move... It really creeps my boyfriend out, haha.

i'm certain i have joint pain due to UC.
the absolute worst was once in the middle of the night. i had been sleeping on it but still, i should be able to sleep on it occasionally. and it was just out of no where. this was after diagnosis but before i had started any meds.
it was very intense and my husband finally made me a sling which held my arm out with a pillow between my arm and body in the only position that it wasn't painful. the next day it was just as bad and i called to start asacol that day.

now it comes and goes, i can rarely sleep on my right side. but it has never been as bad as that first time. maybe the asacol helps a bit with that inflammation...

otherwise i would say try alternating ice pack and heating pad. i do that and just baby it until it spontaneously goes away.

UC (probably pancolitis, but no c-scope yet), diagnosed June 2006, started having major symptoms sometime in January 2006, about 3 months after childbirth. 2nd flare (minor) may 2007 after taking caprylic acid for 2 weeks.

-Prednisone 8/28/06-2/28/07. and again may '07, 8 week course.
-Prayer! asacol, probio, ground psyllium husk, prenatal, folic acid, cal-mag

may you live all the days of your life.

Thank You for the replies, I will mention it to the GI and to my Family DR next time I am there. Its not bad today.. I am going to go with the "just baby it" idea lol.

Thanks again

I've got a little arthritis in my right AC joint. I was told that one 'itis' usually follows another.
